We ice biked when I was a kid. The ponds rarely had good ice for doing biking - too much snow or the ice was not safe. So we would go early to the skating rinks before the warming house opened and the staff threw us off. No need to change tires, etc. Needless to say, excellent balance was extremely important as were quick reflexes. Youth was also key. We had lots of practice on icy residential streets where a fall could be nasty. None of us suffered anything but a few bruises when on good ice (you go down, you slide on the smooth ice). The joys of being young and carefree...
Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.
