Recommend a Simple Vector Based drawing Program

Hi,

Any recommendations for a simple to use Vector Based drawing program?
I just need to be able to quickly layout simple shapes at their correct proportion to another area.

What I mean is I work in printing and I need to show the printed sheet will layout, without actually doing the whole thing…
Simply put how many 3"x6.5" pieces fit on a 19" x 25" sheet, allowing space around each one.
What if they are rotated etc. etc.

The old Drawing part of Appleworks was gray for this, simple yet powerful.
I don't need the power of Illustrator, but maybe I should grab Affinity Design (or Publisher) since its on sale.

Thanks,

Steve

Kurtzie,

Many options out there. But, if time is of the essence, you might want to look into LibreOffice since it has a Draw component and it's free. Great app to have on hand for a slew of reasons. One of the few that can open Appleworks related files.

I can also attest to the quality of Affinity Designer. I recently had to edit a PDF file and after dealing with the annoyance that is Adobe Illustrator CS 5.5, I decided to open the file in Affinity Designer. It did the job easily whereas trying to perform the same task in Illustrator was a _huge_ nuisance.

I'd actually purchased the Affinity apps last year when they were on sale and planned to slowly migrate to them. The above situation proved to me without a doubt that the plan was solid and the cost to purchase the app set was worthwhile.

There are a ton of other vector-based drawing apps out there.

Rich,

The drawing tools in Pages are rudimentary and cumbersome at best. Not even close to what you had in Appleworks and, its predecessor, Clarisworks. Any drawing is definitely better off done in an actual drawing app and then imported into Pages or, better yet, a publishing app like Affinity Publisher.

I miss AppleWorks.

It may reside somewhere on one of my old Macs.

One of these days, I'll have to see if I can dig it up.

Does anybody have an idea as to the last OS to accomodate AW 6.2.9, and by some miracle, is it still available from some site other than Softonic, cnet, etc?

RAM,

Worst case, if you can't find Applework, LibreOffice can open Appleworks files. I may have Appleworks somewhere in my software archives or, literally, on optical media. I keep everything. smiling smiley

“ last OS to accomodate AW 6.2.9 “

10.6 I believe. I’m certain that I have an installer.

I miss it too, especially with the MacLink translators installed.
