Why is it that you can buy over-the-counter glasses for farsightedness, but not nearsightedness? Thanks.

I believe that all far-sighted glasses are basically just magnifiers. Nearsightedness requires many more parameters, including correcting for astigmatism, prism, PD, etc.

.....whether......near.......or....far.......???

IIRC I've see reading glasses of up to -1.5 in stores...not very useful if you have any real nearsightedness.

My youngest was only -3.5 but I still had to pony up for LASEK (essentially PRK) so they'd qualify for pilot training in their service branch after undergrad.

Oldest was worse but since their undergrad was at a service academy they got LASIK over at Walter Reed on the government's dime once they signed their contract beginning of "junior" year.

Online places like Zenni are actually cheaper than OTC, and their quality is high.
