Can two computers be hooked up to the same monitor?

It used to be that you needed a KVM switch.

Can I hook up a Mini with HDMI, and a MBP with display port at the same time?

Obviously not use them at the same time.

I have a Del P2715Q.

Sure. Then just change the connection option in the Dell menu.

yes, I do that on my work bench - one connected via DVI and another via HDMI and switch between the two using the monitor buttons on the front - tried to do picture in picture, but for some reason, that only works with a serial connection on one of the connections (20" dell from 2010 or so)

The beauty of the KVM though, is one button switching (along with keyboard and mouse if you use USB devices). No fiddling with monitor menus to switch inputs.

The video connections on the Dell P2715Q:
1 x DisplayPort Input
1 x DisplayPort Output
1 x Mini DisplayPort Input
1 x HDMI (MHL)

3 inputs and 1 output if you want to connect to another monitor. You just need the right cable.

4 computers currently hooked up to my LG monitor:

2014 Mac Mini
~2018 homebuilt gaming PC
2018 NUC8i5
2017 NUC7i7

Also 3 KBs & mousies. The NUCs share a set as they don't get used at the same time.

What is "MHL"? Is that some kind of small special HDMI cable?

Good question. BPphotovideo.com has a picture of the ports in the listing for your monitor and it looks like a regular HDMI port to me.

Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) is an industry standard for a mobile audio/video interface that allows the connection of smartphones, tablets, and other portable consumer electronics devices to high-definition televisions (HDTVs), audio receivers, and projectors. The standard was designed to share existing mobile device connectors, such as Micro-USB, and avoid the need to add additional video connectors on devices with limited space for them.

Same here. The monitor is a hub and the M1 Mini plugs IN to it. Two raids, USB powered speakers, and another hub come out of the monitor hub. One loose thunderbolt cable that is easy access for when needed for Drive dock, SnapScan, TimeMachine, or CD with that USB 3.1 Gen 2 connector.

The other Mini is Bluetooth everything except fo the Monitor connection and one loose USB cable that is easy access for when needed.
Printer WiFi.

My Eizo monitor has a DVI KVM connected to the DVI port and a DisplayPort to MiniDP cable attached to the DisplayPort connector. I haven't yet had a laptop hooked up while the other computers are on. But the Eizo switches over to the DP as soon as the laptop boots.

I've been considering a KVM for that very reason.

One of my monitors is a Dell U2711, and I hate the drill-down OSD needed to do just about anything with that monitor, including switching inputs.

For awhile, I used Teleport that allowed me to use a wired keyboard and mouse between two Macs.

I'm not sure why I stopped- it was probably a Mac/OS incompatibility as new kit was had.

It's now open source software, though I know nothing about its current iteration, or navigating the site.

The problem with KVMs is it's no longer the old days of VGA (or even DVI) for all video and they can get pretty expensive with DisplayPort and HDMI versions.
