Pepé Le Who?

‘ Pepe Le Pew Not Slated for Future Warner Bros. Television Projects ‘

‘ The news comes one day after it was reported Pepé Le Pew was scrubbed from the upcoming Space Jam 2. And while all that news falls days after a New York Times opinion piece in which the character was said to have "normalized rape culture," the decision to both scrub him from the film and not have him return for TV projects was made more than a year ago. ‘

While I'll miss him, it's the right decision. I wonder if there's any way they could rework the character...

What a stupid decision.

Feel free to write your own rape-skunk stories, and peddle them wherever you like, if that's your jam.

The storylines of his cartoons were of persistent unwanted sexual advances toward a cat who spent the entire episode trying to escape from his thoroughly rejected amorous attempts to trap her. No matter how clearly (and sometimes violently) she resisted him, he kept coming at her, over and over and over.

They were creepy.

He was supposed to be an unacceptable character, right from the beginning. Condemning LePew and his behavior was way ahead of its time. Congrats to Warner Bros.

Those were.

Not every story followed that pattern. Some had roles reversed. Some were genuinely redemptive.

It could be dealt with pretty handily if they wanted to do it. They took the safe and lazy way out.

Not surprised tho...
Just say no to Interspecies Erotica! I suppose Miss Piggie's domestic abuse of Kermit will be next on the chopping block!

“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

There were a lot of double entendres in those episodes!

As a kid, in far different times, long, long, long past, I loved Pepé for his being in love with love. Back then wasn’t prompted to think any further. Though it probably played no small part in why I have a sizable streak of the romantic in me; thankfully tempered with a considerably more evolved view of relationships between men and women.

Pepé’s time is past. Redeemable? Maybeably. ‘Sending him to a farm upstate’ could be called lazy or just letting a relic of the past retire as gracefully as possible under the circumstances. Room for that new to be beloved character.
