The sound design was almost as impressive as the flying! Great work in the editing room to get the spatial effects spot-on.

WTF, how small is the drone to have enough clearance at that speed? I call shenanigans, which I'm pretty sure is a real film-making term.

That was seriously impressive. Like the type of shot that took extreme amounts of money in Hollywood little more than a decade ago.

CGI is a magical thing.

I get that this was choreographed, but it would seem to require the sort of takes that an OK Go video or those Honda UK "Cog" ads would need.

I’d be more inclined to believe it was multiple clips spliced together.

Maybe if there was a “how it was made” video showing the drone in flight as it took that video...

Those drone racing league drones are fairly small and very agile. The premier pilots are talented as hell, too. One of those drones/pilots with camera mounted on a decent gimbal could pull that off pretty easily. They're used to flying at speeds way in excess of what was shown in the bowling video. Like 4 - 5X faster. Not to take anything away from the video, it was very cute, and impressive, but it looks way more technically difficult to the 98% of the population that isn't familiar with the technological skills actually involved.

I looked again, but from what was going on in the scenes I couldn't detect any edits (to say nothing of the continual flow of the drone).

It was most likely shot with a cinewhoop, a FPV drone, but much slower and designed for filming. It also has bumpers to help it not get damaged and be safer.

I’m guessing,
  • No CGI
  • Not a single take
  • 1 exterior shot for the entrance, 3-4 interior shots (Not to be confused with ‘takes’ of any given shot)
  • Shots choreographed with seamless/near seamless edit points

This is what the bowling alley scene in Jersey Boys would have looked lime if Scorsese had directed that film instead of Eastwood.

No, the pilot said "many takes." Not to diminish the result in any way! The voiceover guy in the newscast said "one-take video" but I think he meant "one-shot."

(Shot = continuous section of filming. Take = an attempt at a shot.)

Yes, I got that from the interview. Many attempts to get the timing and choreography correct but the video is a single take, not multiple ones stitched together.
