Partner is thinking about replacing our blow dryer, which works but is having 'attachment issues,'
i.e. the attachments (plastic) have worn over time and no longer reliably stay on the dryer. If this were
my issue, I'd kludge it and find a way to address the wear so that they can still be used. But, this isn't my issue, and the solution here is replacement.
We have other Dyson appliances, and have found them to be durable and efficient, if expensive. Partner has suggested getting a
Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, which is what their stylist uses at the salon. The attachments are magnetic, so wear-related issues aren't a problem. Also, it seems to be very effective at drying hair quickly without excessive heat, which is a big bonus. On the downside, it retails for $399.99, which is a LOT OF MONEY for a hair dryer.
You can get refurbished models (from Dyson, when in stock, and from third-party sellers) that carry a shorter warranty, for $279.99. I've never gotten anything from Dyson refurb'd, so I have no idea whether that's smart or a crapshoot. eBay has lots of stock, but I'm generally more skeptical of eBay when it comes to higher-quality merchandise, because of the risks of counterfeits, hard-to-prove misrepresentation, etc.
Anyone here actually use one of these? What do you think? Was it worth it? Did you get new or refurb? What did you pay?
Thanks, everybody! Your expertise is always worth asking for...
