Anyone use a Dyson Supersonic hair dryer?

Partner is thinking about replacing our blow dryer, which works but is having 'attachment issues,' i.e. the attachments (plastic) have worn over time and no longer reliably stay on the dryer. If this were my issue, I'd kludge it and find a way to address the wear so that they can still be used. But, this isn't my issue, and the solution here is replacement.

We have other Dyson appliances, and have found them to be durable and efficient, if expensive. Partner has suggested getting a Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, which is what their stylist uses at the salon. The attachments are magnetic, so wear-related issues aren't a problem. Also, it seems to be very effective at drying hair quickly without excessive heat, which is a big bonus. On the downside, it retails for $399.99, which is a LOT OF MONEY for a hair dryer.

You can get refurbished models (from Dyson, when in stock, and from third-party sellers) that carry a shorter warranty, for $279.99. I've never gotten anything from Dyson refurb'd, so I have no idea whether that's smart or a crapshoot. eBay has lots of stock, but I'm generally more skeptical of eBay when it comes to higher-quality merchandise, because of the risks of counterfeits, hard-to-prove misrepresentation, etc.

Anyone here actually use one of these? What do you think? Was it worth it? Did you get new or refurb? What did you pay?

Thanks, everybody! Your expertise is always worth asking for...

We have had a refurb unit for 3+ years... even with 3 women in the house its never skipped a beat. No complaints. The cord seems too thick, its always a mess in the drawer... but I never use it so?

Wife and oldest have thick hair -- wife took forever to blow dry hair. Seems less now? youngest not so much, so uses it less.

They seem to love it so much they want the airwrap, $500. Told them no way. Saving for my new M1 iMac. smiley-music039

Wife has one, loves it. Enough we have bought daughter, and daughter in law units for Christmas presents.

She also has an AirWrap, and it's a solid unit as well.

I'd go the Dyson refurb route, they are always sending me emails direct. Save the $. smiling smiley The AirWrap was a refurb and indistinguishable from new.

Good Luck!

My wife likes her's. We got one shortly after they came out as the one she had was loud and awful. As noted, the cord is thick and a bit unruly. It's quiet for a hairdryer and seems to work well.

I have one and love it. More to the point, my hair loves it - no more frizzy curls and a lot faster drying. I picked mine up new from Best Buy for 320, they run deals periodically.

Thanks, everyone - I think we're going to go refurb from the Dyson eBay store! I really appreciate the input.
