Had a nest like that when I had some country property. When I first noticed it, I went out to take a look, standing maybe 30-40 yards away but they saw me and at least a few came after me. I wasn't hurt, but I sure kept a distance from them for the rest of the summer. Nest was destroyed when some cattle from next door got onto my property. Don't know how they did it, but apparently leather is good protection.

I thought a flamethrower was the proper anti-hornet protocol.

Can they see or sense for a good distance? Enough to attack someone a good ways off? I'm sort of amazed at that capability.

This is an example of "you can't fix stupid". It's a wonder that he didn't end up in the hospital.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

You know what would have killed those hornets in a jiffy?

Hornet spray.

My approach :
Wait until night.
Chemical warfare.
Repeat until they are all dead.

The Yellowjacket nests in the ground are the worst

I had a nest in the ground, not sure what they were, Yellow Jackets or Hornets... they stung my MIL. It was in the Fall, so it got below 50F at night. 11 PM I sneaked out and emptied an entire CAN of hornet killer in that hole. That was it, never saw one of them ever again.

Why disturb them at all? They're going to be somewhere if not there.

I don't know about that, as we don't really have winter around here.

But I'd say he lives in a place without a good educational system.

Yeah, he was trying for a viral video.

I don't think he got stung nearly as much as he deserved.

He's a real genius. Son had one on the side of his big hay, about 4000 sq.ft., We drove up on the golf cart late one night and he shined the light and I put a 20ga. round through it with a modified choke shotgun(wide pattern) and he floored it. There's was a couple still hanging around the next day and hit them with wasp spray.

I don’t get why he used the hose. It’s an outdoor nest - did he think the water was going to melt it? Same question about the music.

Seems kind of stupid to me. As others have mentioned, why not just douse the nest with hornet spray that would knock them right out. Done, and done.

I mean if he really wanted to put on a good show, he could have sprayed it with lighter fluid and then set it on fire, then played some Slayer on the guitar as the burning hornets came down to die in his hair.
