Twenty-four years ago today, the DealMac forums were founded! Yes, that means it was 1997.

For those who don't know, the MacResource forums really stemmed from the DealMac forums, as DealMac made a decision to totally restructure their forums, and a ton of the regulars at the forum didn't like it, so MacResource created this forum, which was more along the lines of the original DealMac forum structure.

Anyway....I've been reading and posting here and and at DealMac pretty much since the beginning. I must be getting old!

I think I registered at the old place about 2000ish. I recall I was using a Lynx browser via a local FreeNet to browse because the real ISPs were all still an expensive long distance call.

On 9/11/01, I had to log in from a Chicago AOL site, because none of the upstate NY access numbers I tried were working.

I can't believe it is almost 20 years since The UnDoug created the Unofficial Dealmac F.A.Q. site. I contributed to it as soon as it came online, and had it as my signature. You could call me a fan of it!

Happy Birthday, DealMac. I happened to have missed all of the drama around the transition (I had walked away before The Rift happened), glad to find a welcoming MRF around when I returned.

I still read Dealnews every day. I know others prefer places like slickdeals, but I like Dealnews. I can't remember exactly when I joined... probably around 1998. I belonged to a local MUG, and someone told me about it. I joined here in '05. I wondered where everyone had gone, and then I got a private message from someone telling me where you all had gone to!

Censorship was more than just a few naughty words.

I actually started posting on the site in 1994, before the 1997 formal change. I think the boys were still in college at that ime. I can still remember sitting in my 'Dad works far away' apartment posting on my Se/30 with Radius Color Pivot monitor. Learning about the Sears clearance sale and the Walmart clearance sale

I owe a big “thanks” to Dealmac. It’s one of the places I cut my teeth on the then ‘modern’ internet. One of my early digital communities. A LOT of good people and good times. Happy Cake Day Dealmac.

Same here. I have curbed the buying I used to do as my RV has very limited space.


I remember the (unofficial) motto: Going broke saving money.

I was around pretty early in the DealMac days too. Started off the pandemic using an early FireWire camera on my current (well, 2014!) Hackintosh that I'm almost positive I grabbed on a DealMac deal!

I still think about what a cool cat the late The Løpe was. As well as other dearly departed members.
