Yes, he has a lamp shade!

We took our doggie to Banfield for a drainage of an abcess yesterday afternoon. The simple procedure turned into a bloody mess from 6:30 P.M. until we drove him to ER at 10 P.M. The vet plugged up the incision made by the Banfield vet. This morning I had to take a day off work to bring the doggie back to Banfield to have the gauge removed. He's all drugged up now. I am too tired to sleep. Hopefully, the blood clot is working as it should. We are considering purchasing basic insurance coverage for the dude. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

What kind of suggestion are you asking about? Insurance? Veterinarians?

I hear buying pet insurance that covers what you'd like it to is pretty expensive. I've never had it on any of my animals, and I don't think I've come out behind in terms of vet bills compared to premiums.

Have you been happy with the Banfield vets? I'm suspicious of them, although I have no good reason to feel that way. I just prefer finding a good local independent and establishing a rapport over time. It sure has worked to my advantage (and the advantage of the animals) more than once.

AlphaDog, we would prefer to go to an independent vet. And we have been using Banfield because we are happy with their provision of basic care but this recent incident prompted us to seek an independent vet. We are checking out a couple of vets recommended by friends. Some of our friends have insurance coverage for their pets. So we are thinking along the same line to save money.

If you like the manner of care from the second vet, why not give him/her a shot to be your vet?

Strength without compassion is brutality. Compassion without strength is weakness.

We must train our minds to desire what the situation demands.

EH, the second vet works in the ER only ... 6 P.M. to 8 A.M. holidays included. I am not sure if he takes on non-emergency clients.
