Now playing on many PBS stations...in Flemish with subtitles. It's Belgian TV!

I'm a fan of the Golden Monkey, which suffers (in my opinion) from a typically Americanized marketing effort, in terms of education. And it's reflected in the cartoonish graphic design.

That said, they have fairly wide distribution (no small feat, actually) and I maintain that it's the real deal, despite appearances.

Golden Monkey is a damn good American cop.
Their cartoons are still way better than 99.99% of the cartoons on the Jonny Come Lately IPA crap on my local "brew store" shelf.
This ones made with African bourbon barreled aged cow wee-wee.
Gimme a fkn break!
Then those companies turn out one or 2 decent and well realized beers and hide behind their IPA.
Ommegang bunch out of Cooperstown is good stuff too.
Spider Bite Boris the Spider Imperial Stout. Just too expensive, even for a 16z can of beer.
Barrier makes a couple goodies. Their website is clever and annoying at the same time.

I've never been able to get waffles the way I had in Brussels. I did begin working on a recipe but gave up. May try that one again.

Oh, beer: same trip as waffles trip. Also amazingly good and fresh beer. The Belgians like their yeast! Lambic and Kriek. Chimay and Duvel. Leffe and Hoegaarden.

Ommegang is great. And if you like those, you probably know about Unibroue beers (La Fin du Monde, or my fave, Blanche de Chambly).

Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

Work is a thing sad smiley last time we went to beer stores, can you believe, they didn’t have a lot we wanted??? Yes, we are snobs. We try not to go anywhere too often. We even went to a fancy brewery and got a few that we were not impressed with.

Jealous of work as a thing. Owen is tired of me talking to him and just rolls his eyes.

Snob too. I finally gave up on our local bev joint as they just seem to carry colorful 16z cans of stoopit IPA combos for >$4 each.
They carry Chemey and Ommegang and that's about it.
Oh .... and plenty of bud, coors and other cans off ice cold wee wee.

Went to a beer tasting in Belgium once. Good beer, but not as hoppy as I like these days.

Just to make conversation, I asked the host about Stella. He said it’s like sex in a canoe.

Beg pardon? It’s f-ing close to water, he said.

Stella went thru a big thing with friends in NYC a decade ago.
If it had been Beerbook, I'd have unfriended them.
The Merlot of beer. It has a bit of color and that's about it.
I'd rather the sex in a canoe.

My cats are thrilled, since I AM home. Nearest reasonably useful liquor store (grocery stores don’t sell beer here) is 25 minutes away.

“ seem to carry colorful 16z cans of stoopit IPA combos for >$4 each. ” OMG that’s what WE have! I do not want it! 90% of the aisle is lovely cans that have beer we won’t drink.

I have had Gulden Draak, but it was a gift. Yummy.

I've seen Gulden once. Never had it. I'll have to more looking at the decent place next outing.
My fave has been the Leffe line since I first had it in Belgium way too many years ago. But don't think I've ever had a Belgian from Belgium I didn't like.
Used to be an fab Belgian restaurant in SE DC that I'd frequent when I was there for mussels, beer and dangerous dark chocolate concoctions that would make up for a long day of hurry up and wait. And kill 2 days per diem.

The revelation in Brussels was that each beer had its own glass. So, each time I got a different beer, the barman went to the shelf and got its accompanying glass. And this was in the youth hostel!

It is yummy. I’ve heard it described as a quadruple (as in tripel plus one). And at 10.5% alcohol, more than one at a sitting may be wasted (or you may be, if you know what I mean).

Discovered it on a cruise, where they charged $10/bottle (ouch, but that’s kind of their standard markup). Oddly enough, it was on a pacific cruise. If we weren’t having wine, it became my go-to.

Wife has friends from Belgium. Last time they came over they brought me about a dozen bottles of different beers. I was in heaven.
