I microwaved a spoon and nothing happened.

I forgot to remove the spoon (metal) in a cup of coffee that I was reheating. From what I understand, a fork would have had different results.

I once microwaved an open plastic jar of peanut butter from a fridge for a few seconds to try to soften the stuff at the bottom. Started seeing sparks fly and a glow around the lid.

It originally had a paper/aluminum seal when first open which was no longer there, but there were some traces of it remaining around the top edges of the jar rim where it had been glued.

I recently accidentally microwaved a fork in a bowl of soup, and nothing happened (apart from the soup becoming hot, of course).

That surprised me: I once microwaved food on a plate without realizing that the gilded edge of the plate would cause problems. It sparked like mad.

Metallic materials shaped like an antenna are more likely to spark, especially if they're up off the platter.

I did the same as a kid. Early microwave,Thanksgiving leftovers, not the usual plates, and didn’t think about it until it started sparking.

A LONG time ago I microwaved an Arby's sandwich and part of it immediately burst into flames.

I thought the thin layer of foil on the paper wrapping wasn't actually foil but just silver (or gold) colored paper.

A restaurant cook I knew put flies in the MW, turned it on and watched them explode mid-flight. I never ate there.

Hopefully he didn't graduate from flies.

Any points of metal that form a gap are likely to arc a spark in a microwave.

Put a foil wrapped burger in a microwave to warm it up and watch the hilarity ensue.

I'm not saying that actually happened, but it was caught before fire caught on.

Have an old CD or DVD that you want to erase ? Microwave for about 3 seconds. Nice light show and the inner metallic structure is completely cracked to pieces.

Yep, same here but it was a burrito from a different establishment.
