Sunbeam Advanced 7 Outlet Power Strip with Surge Protector for $1

I bought a new Sunbeam Advanced 7 Outlet Power Strip with Surge Protector for $1 at the local (NJ) DollarTree today. 125V/15A with 2 1/2 foot cord. The deal was too good to pass up, and I checked with the cashier beforehand if it really was just $1. Amazon sells this same model for $12.99.

Score! But you made a mistake if you only bought one.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

how much is your fire insurance coverage?

[I would be worried if something like that is fake and not really well tested]

The genuine one has those ratings. If your Dollar Tree doesn't have genuine Sunbeam, a faux imitation would have the markings but may fail to meet those specifications.

Amazon sells this same model for $12.99.

and you can also get a fake on Amazon. Especially when Amazon commingles products from different vendors to optimize inventory control. That makes it easier for the vendors (no need to label each product with your own SKU) and easier for Amazon. My inventory is shipped to a warehouse in NJ, someone else's is shipped to a warehouse in a different state. When you buy from me but are located close to the other state, you may get an item from that warehouse, so strictly speaking not from my inventory.

So even on Amazon you cannot be 100% sure that you got a genuine product.

I don’t know why you are so concerned about this being a fake. Dollar tree has carried many Sunbeam electrical products for years. These are new units shipped in boxes. Nothing looks fake.

Because there are some damn good fakes out there. The counterfeiters duplicate the boxes, make molds directly for genuine products and so one. Without looking very closely you can not tell the difference from the external appearance.. Where often they fall down is when you open up the products and see the cheap components used when they assembled them.

The Dollar Store is usually pretty good, but they have carried counterfeit and lookalike products in the past.

P.S. Amazon also has a seller listing this strips for $6.70, The Sunbeam Store.
