jadster,

It's behind a paywall. Here is a link to the story on Stars and Stripes:

A good read. I was not aware however that the killings were not considered abhorrent to so many. Helps explain a lot today.

Oh yeah. I was still delivering newspapers as a teen at the time, the reactions of so many was "good, they're dead" when talking about the students.

Four Dead In Ohio

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground

How can you run when you know?

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio (Four dead)
Four dead in Ohio (Four)
Four dead in Ohio (How many?)
Four dead in Ohio (How many more?)
Four dead in Ohio (Why?)
Four dead in Ohio (Oh!)
Four dead in Ohio (Four)
Four dead in Ohio (Why?)
Four dead in Ohio (Why?)

I've seen several clips of Graham Nash telling the story behind the song, and when I was looking for a clip to post here, discovered this one I hadn't seen. Wow.

We had Angela Davis at UCLA to provide us her own unique perspective on the current events of the time.

The more things change, the more it seems like different ribbon and wrapping paper on the same present.

It a story that every photojournalist should be able to relate too. How did my job impact another's life? I wonder at times abouut individuals who were in my photos. I guess the one that comes to mind most often is a small boy, to young to even give out his own name. His was found in the rubble of a community in northern Nicaragua that had been utterly destroyed in a mudslide. No one seemed to know who he was, maybe 5 or 6 years old, lying on a makeshift bed in a community center, all alone and ignored.

I'm ashamed now to say that I took a photo of him and moved on, not really giving it a great deal of thought. It wasn't until later that his image began to haunt me. I can still see him clearly, the fear in his eyes.

It has been 23 years since i took that image. That boy would be a man today. Who is he, how did his life turn out? I know it wasn't a happy ending - orphans are generally warehoused and then turned out with no aide. Is he in a gang? Is he married with his own child? Is he even alive.

I'll never know the answers, and that means I'll never forget that child.

Sorry, went adrift there but the article resonated with me.

Wasn't there a controversy related to that photo regarding editing out the post (that appears just above her head)?

Aesthetics versus truth?

The governor of Florida said she was "part of a nationally organized conspiracy of professional agitators" that was "responsible for the students' death."

Ah, yes. She was a "crisis actor." The more things change, the more they stay the same.
