Do we want the www in our URL?

This is always a choice in setting up a new domain, at least on Dreamhost. Does the choice matter, other that aesthetics or something?

I tend to use it. I just kind of like the symmetry of it. But as long as the "naked" version redirects to the www or vice versa, it probably doesn't make much difference.

Good, sounds like it doesn't really matter, and it's more a matter of style. Thanks all.

depends on use. Some things... like PDF documents, will not see URLs withough www, unless its manually created.

I use it when I may have other machines in the domain doing other things that I want DNS to route traffic to...

WWW.example.com (just the web server)
records.example.com (this is a different computer, with an archive on it)
Backup.example.com (this is a backup drive NAS that several users back up to).

Granted, the non-www machines traffic will route to only if they use that sub-domain, so, it really doesn't matter... but, I like to keep things as consistent as I can, so, I use the www.
