I actually know someone in Europe who had to take the measuring tape to the dealer when he bought a new car. It wasn't as tight as this, but tight enough that he had to measure it.

Years ago, we put an offer in on a house. They sent us the HOA documents, and we found we would have to park our vehicles in the garage at night, no exceptions. Problem was, my wife and I both had SUVs. The next day, we took measuring tape out and found it would have basically been impossible to park both vehicles in the garage and be able to get out of either one. Not to mention, we'd have to get a shed (not allowed) to store things like bikes, a mower, workbench, etc. Thankfully, we were able to use that as an excuse to get out of the contract.

Kudos to that old man for figuring out how to do it and then doing it. He's probably been doing this for years. Not everyone can afford the finest accommodations to fit their perceived needs.
