Suggestions for supporting wiring at Beat headphones

Picked up a pair of Beat headphones at a garage sale yesterday and the cord is torn an inch or so from the headphone. They work but I need to figure the best way to support the tear in the cord. I read some past posts about "Sugru" rubberized epoxy but negative comments on Amazon if it is not 'fresh'. I think a heat sensitive tape or a split tubing that is heat sensitive might offer better support. I am including a shot of the tear. I would prefer NOT to do any wiring. I am also ordering new ear pads once I get this cord fixed. Thanks for your suggestions.

A bit of heat shrink tubing works well. Even home stores sell it

Dumb question, can I cut the tube and wrap it before heating the tubing? There is also a heat shrink tape out there. I could give it a few layers before melting it down. Thoughts?

Most people don't consider that often heat shrink tubing won't shrink enough to seal some cable if the connector at an end is particularly big.

If that's the case, try getting some quality tubing that fits over the connector, some sized appropriately for the cable, and a size or two between those two.

Slide the largest size over the connector.

Gut the cable size and one or two intermediate sizes and wrap them concentrically around the cable, offsetting the cuts.

Slide the larger, intact bit of tubing and then heat the bunch.

This can make for a bulky repair, but is a workaround if needed.

I've never used it, but many people I know have recommended some form of Liquid Tape that seems to work well.

That would work.

It could also be used under tubing if need be.

I didn't see the earphone plug, but if it's not to large in diameter, I'd go with the tubing before than anything else.

It is a right angle plug so tough to get a tube around it. I like the Sugru idea but complaints about splitting and not holding if not a fresh batch. Thinking of this liquid tape and applying several coats and being patient to allow for proper curing between coats.

I've used that liquid tape before. Just know that it's kind of gloppy....so plan on several thin coats if you want it to "look good". And plan on a different applicator than the brush built into the bottle lid - maybe a pack of watercolor paintbrushes or something similar.

Yes, I appreciate that. I know for the price it is not the greatest solution but I looked at the tape and it would look as bad I think. A rubber boot with epoxy would look better or the Sugru dough rolled out like a smooth cylinder shape after applying to the cable.

If I though my soldering skills were decent I would just buy a new cable so there you go.
