Anyone ever knock on the music you listen to?

I had a passenger in my vehicle remark , "Can we listen to something else? Fleetwood Mac is what my mom listens to when she cleans the house." That person never rode in my car again.

As a lifelong Zappa fan, I'm used to this - doesn't bother me at all.

But it also leads to the occasional,

'that's great - what the hell is it?'

'It's Frank Zappa'

'THAT'S FRANKS ZAPPA? I had no idea...'

My 18-year-old niece's favorite singers are the Beatles, Johnny Cash, Ed Sheeron, and Frank Sinatra.

I listened to classical music as a high school kid in the seventies - so yeah, that was my life.

My daughter and I can usually find common ground, but my mom and I have never found any.
How to you complain about Dire Straits by saying “Why are they singing about microwave ovens” but have no problem with the drivel that is in her favorite country songs? Lol

I turned the volume up a bit for some music on my 'Phone, and somebody said 'You like that?!'

I told them 'Don't believe anybody who tells you there's no stupid question. Driver controls the radio. No exceptions.'

And then pointed out that 'I don't complain about the crap you listen to'.

I'm a Zappa fan as well, which is why I never knock the music anyone else listens to.*

My wife, who grew up on disco used to needle me whenever The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald came on and I turned it up. She jokingly complained that there were too many words in the music I liked and she couldn’t dance to it. I recently dug out and hooked up my old turntable and receiver along with my vintage LP collection. After hearing some of my old foogie music she’s now going through my LPs and listening to a number of them.

pRICE,

Yups. No surprise since my music of choice tends to be an acquired taste. The average person isn't a fan of speed/power/thrash metal. Fortunately, I rarely get complaints these days since the vast majority of my passengers are well aware of my taste in music and know what to expect when they enter the vehicle.

As the driver, music is my decision. People who don't like it are welcome to exit the vehicle and walk to our destination, regardless of distance. 'course, there are a few exceptions. Little M and the wife get to choose the music, though certain types are banned, i.e. anything Barney and rap. Anyone else? All bets are off.

Note, if i was an uber/lyft/taxi driver, I'd always switch the music to whatever is preferred by the passenger(s). After all, they are paying for the ride. smiling smiley
