RIP WD Blue, 6T.

He was only 5, seems like far, far too young.

He will be missed.

WD White, 10T will be picking up his mantle.

WD is dead, long live WD.

I can see how Blue you are. There will be better days ahead with Red White.

I usually have good luck with WD. All my spinners are WD.

I'm sure he brought you a lot of joy.

I only use cheapest now. I had to look at the drives:

4x 5TB Seagate Barracuda (primary)
2x 10TB WD White (backup 1)
2x 8TB Seagate Archive (backup 2)

WD Black has always done well by me.
However, if we’re going to debate white vs black and red vs blue, let alone the benefits of green, should this perhaps be moved to the other side?

I'm still mad at WD.... snagged a bunch of WD Blacks that were shucked from Elements externals, and didn't put one into service for a little over a year. Took about 3 - 4 weeks to get it all set up from consolidating stuff from older, smaller drives, then after only about 10 days in use, while still fine-tuning it, it self-destructed. Bare internal WD Blacks had long warranty, but because WD tracked SN's, they knew explodo drive only had one year external warranty, and they wouldn't budge at 14 months w/ only <6 weeks part time use on it. Another shuckee failed a bit shy of 3 years, but at least it gave some warning so its data was salvaged w/o major incident. Empathy abounds.

This is the first WD that died in decades.

I have others, older still working (if I didn't just jinx myself).

The only brand that's given me multiple failures in Seagate.

HGST was my GoTo brand, then Toshiba.

For the last >15 years, I've just gone with the cheapest, which has always been WD.

These are shucked drives, so not much of a warranty.

Moot, as the drives always outlive the warranty be years.
