Sony A camera mount which started as Minolta Maxxum in 1985, is dunzo

Not a surprising development as they had gone full force into the mirror less cameras. Their last few cameras were interesting as they featured pellicle mirrors that were fixed and didn’t flip up when taking a photo.

It appears as though Sony has discontinued its remaining DSLRs, suggesting the A-mount era is over.

As noted today by Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony’s a68, a77 II and a99 II A-mount DSLR cameras are no longer listed on its website and are even disappearing from online retailers. It’s unknown when these changes occurred, but based on a snapshot of Sony’s camera listing page via Wayback Machine, the listings have been gone since at least April 28, 2021.

Pour one (Beercan 70-210/f or BigBeercan 75-300) out for A-mount.

Ahh, yes I have that 70-210/f4. Chromatic abberation is mostly addressable in Camera RAW, but I suspect a newer lens would be better.

Not sure how I feel about the end of A mount. I have been using my phone for most camera duty, and haven't really used my a550 in probably a year. Maybe once for a family photo.

Aberration, schmaneration, I prefer to call it “lens color character”.

On the telescope side of things, we call that the blue halo.

"My, doesn't Jupiter have a nice blue halo this evening."
"What choo talkin' bout, William, no blue halos in my scope."
"Yeah, and no money in your pocket, either!"

It's roughly a 10x markup to eliminate that blue color fringing.
