Cirrus has a parachute... ive read it make them a little more reckless, since they have an "out" if something goes wrong.

All were very fortunate to be alive. I flew the Metroliner back in the 80's and can't believe they made back to land.

So this actually was a "near miss".

So this actually was a "near miss".

You don't see that much damage from a "near miss".

But "near miss" is probably the correct wording for this, they "nearly" missed hitting each other, but they didn't miss, they hit.

"near hit" is probably the more accurate wording for what is commonly called a "near miss".

It looks like the Cirrus came in over the top of the green plan and the prop caused the damage. It's pretty amazing they made it to the airport, about three miles away. They were not that far off the ground. The planes were at about 6400 feet and the airport elevation is 5800.

Seeing these sorts of things always makes me nervous as we are 1/2 mile from the TRK airport. Although planes are not supposed to fly over our neighborhood, they take the shortcut coming in from the west. We see plenty of shenanigans.

That sounds like something you should take up with the FAA.

It is what it is.

I believe the local airport board has dubbed me "Karen"

Cirrus ballistic parachute FTW.

Pax saved. Airframe saved. Pants burned afterwards.

I wonder how statistically accurate that is.

It sounds suspiciously like a meme purported by someone who'd say 'Real pilots don't need parachutes!'
