Can you identify this $#%@& toy???
Posted by: jonny
Date: May 12, 2021 09:30PM
My son has had these blocks for years. Most of them have easily identifiable drawings... a chicken, a tent, an apple.

This block still stumps me. What is this a drawing of?? I beg you! Put me out of my misery!!

No! No! No!

This is a child's toy, not a Salvadore Dali Rorschach test! It has to be a simple, everyday, identifiable object!

You're going to feel really silly once you realize you had it oriented incorrectly.

I did the same thing! It isn't a turtle because you can see the turtle block in the big box of blocks.

Do the pictures start with the letter on the opposite side? If so, what’s the letter?

It's clearly just some kind of weird spaceship with giant lips and bizarre landing pillars. You may disagree, but I'm going to bed without giving this another thought while some of you are slowly going insane.

I don't have the blocks on hand, but I have checked. The pictures and the letters are not related.

Looking at the other drawing of the ship in the blocks; it's a boat (turn it upside down). My guess is it's a representation of a ferry.

Whoever drew that set of blocks needs some more training. Lol.

I agree. I think it is an ocean liner, a passenger-carrying, sea-going vessel, and you are looking at it upside down. The two protruding items are smoke stacks, appropriate for such a vessel at the time those blocks were first produced.

I hear and acknowledge your hypothesis, but respectfully disagree. Such a boat would have windows that gradually descended under the waterline. If a seasick passenger, requiring a breath of fresh air, were to open said window, the boat would sink.

Perhaps, then, a boat drawn by a child who does not yet have a working knowledge of mechanical engineering.

I love CW2V's Escher car.

I don't think its a boat because it looks like there's already a boat in the original picture of the whole set of blocks (slightly above middle on the left side).

Bottom line. I don't know what the hell it is, but it's going to give us all nightmares if we ever see one in real life.

I'm leaning toward helmet, as a couple other people have suggested, probably a bike helmet since it's kid's blocks. The U's are straps, the squared off left is a short visor, which some helmets have, and the "windows" are ventilation, or perhaps a strap of some sort but held externally by belt loops.

Monorail

Z beat me to it... it's what I first thought of when I looked at it. It is clearly a poorly depicted, somewhat lopsided monorail on a very short rail.

Or rather, the rail only extends out of one side of the mono because it's curving sharply to the left .

I can see why one might think it was the stern of a ship but the "smokestacks" (aka rail support pillars) are too far apart.

Upvote for the amusement factor of the wingless airplane!

The more I look at the suggestions, the more I doubt all of them. I think we're even further from figuring this out than we were before...if that's possible.

My new theory is that Jonny sanded down a block and drew it himself with an extra fine point Sharpie just to mess with us. This is either genius or grounds for a permanent forum ban. Probably both.
