TV will be in a very sunny room (keep this in mind), and I’ve heard OLED’s aren’t as bright in such situations.

The LG in question is last year’s model. It’s on sale for $1900. There isn’t anything $600 worth better on this years model (which is $2500).

The Sony is $3800, almost $2000 more (however assume it comes down to these two choices and affordability is not an issue, rather reliability and picture quality are paramount....is this Sony’s picture quality worth $2000 more?). But it has a stunning/brighter picture supposedly (they are using an LG panel but with an added aluminum heat sink to draw the heat).

holy crap, what a price difference. I know affordability is not an issue.

I am also looking for a larger TV, I am thinking of a 77" model. $3k... yeah, whatever.

if I were you, I would buy the LG and test it for 30 ~14 day and then upgrade to Sony if and only if the picture quality was not OK on the LG.

EDIT: 15-DAY RETURN PERIOD

I would go with the LG. I am way to cheap to drop that much on a Sony.

This.

I'm sure both will look great. I think the quality of the streaming internet connection might be more important than this modest difference in screen quality.

Get the CX. The Sony isn't worth the extra money.

Is the Sony worth two of the LGs?

Buy one of each and test them side-by-side. Return the one you don’t want.

Our primary room for watching tv is all glass on two sides plus there are four skylights. We used to have a plasma tv which looked good at night but during the day picture wasn't even visible at times. I upgraded to a LG 55" OLED and WOW what a difference! When the sun is directly on the screen it still looks great. Solid upgrade. I later moved to the LG 65" OLED and just last month we upgraded again to the LG 78" OLED. I have AppleTV 4k connected to them so I don't use the apps that came with the tv. The default screen mode does have that soap opera weird motion look to it. Turning off TruMotion and Noise Reduction fixed that problem.

My kids have LG 43" LCD in their rooms and the apps appear to be identical to the larger OLED tv's. They seem to work well for the kids.

I can't say wether there is a quality difference between the LG and the Sony but I can say that I'm very happy with the LG's that we have.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

I assume you are looking at the Sony A90j? You might consider the Sony A80j more as comparable to the Lg Cx. Cx is a very good oled and this years C1 doesn't seem to have much new to offer.
