welcome to the hotel California?!.....Hilton announces changes to the free breakfast.....

.....today.....normally gold and diamond member get free breakfast.....starting July 2021, they will temporarily go to a food/beverage credit instead (no word on how much credit yet) that can be used 'whenever'.....

......it is listed as 'temporary' probably because they are testing to see if people will 'revolt' as some see this as a 'devaluation' of membership.....

....As restrictions loosen and vaccination rates increase, once-grounded travelers are jumping at the chance to reconnect with loved ones and hit the road (or air) again. As Hilton welcomes guests back this summer, Hilton Honors is excited to launch a new Daily Food & Beverage Credit for Elite members. Please see information below.

Showcasing its commitment to providing more flexibility, value and choice for its more than 115 million members, Hilton Honors is launching a Daily Food & Beverage Credit for Gold and Diamond members beginning in early July through the end of 2021, at all luxury, full-service, lifestyle, and Hilton Garden Inn properties in the U.S.

These brand categories include Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, LXR Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Canopy by Hilton, Signia by Hilton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Curio Collection by Hilton, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, DoubleTree by Hilton and Motto by Hilton.

Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond members can utilize the daily credit towards food or beverage purchases any time of day, replacing the existing Elite Status benefit of complimentary Continental Breakfast.

The Daily F&B Credit will range in value, depending on the brand and location.....

My bandmate and I, both Hicks from Louisiana and Arkansas, were eating breakfast at a nice hotel somewhere in New England. We were used to the free breakfasts in motels where we usually stayed. My bandmate asked a waiter if the breakfast was a "continental" breakfast, but he meant "complementary." We dug in and while we were relaxing and letting the excellent free meal sink in, the waiter walked by a laid a bill on the table for $35.

Does this affect DoubleTree's free warm cookie at check-in?
And no mention of Hampton Inn by Hilton's free breakfast with waffle machine?
Hopefully these two favorites are not affected smiling smiley

I'm an early riser. I always get down there while the workers are still setting up. Those belgian waffle machines are the highlight of my stay smiling smiley

Parents just LOVE letting their rugrats get their own breakfast at the buffet while in pajamas and making a mess when they're not the ones cleaning up. It's part of the trip "fun". Yaay <sarcasm>.

Hard to beat those pre-made cheese omelets. Although I’m not too sure they were an upgrade from scrambled eggs out of a milk carton but they only have to reheat one small batch to last the entire breakfast period.

At least there is no bill for $35. smiley-shocked003

Exactly why i never even think of staying at Hilton class hotels. No free breakfasts and long after the properties in the lesser price tier went to free wifi those toney places were still charging for it.

i'm a happy camper at Hampton Inns, Holiday Inn Express, and Fairfield Inns. Those are a big step up from my Motel 6/Super 8 days!

I'm not big on hotel breakfasts but I do like a little something. Toast and eggs is fine. My wife likes oatmeal. During COVID the hotel breakfast options have really been bad. Usually a much reduced menu and the food arrives with no flavor. We've started carrying a cooler with food when we travel for the weekend. When we do risk the hotel food we've found it needs flavoring so we bring one of those camping spice containers (single container with six spices). It feels like the hotels are really taking advantage of the situation to charge top dollar for food I wouldn't normally eat at all.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

I am a Hilton Diamond. I only book hotels with breakfast.

This will affect my booking habits.

There is a significant difference in the quality of food served for free breakfast and for paid one. The elite members could have gotten the paid one for free or (in Marriott) can get it in the lounge. This is the part that Hilton is changing. Honestly, I find food inedible in most places that serve free breakfast.
