Cbelt,

One factor to consider is how you must power the doorbell. Our home doesn't have the wiring for a normal doorbell. At the time we purchased a video doorbell, the only company that offered one that can be powered via battery is Ring. We bought it. Installed it and it gets the job done nicely.

One other concern is wifi. Ring doorbells of any kind in my experience are _notorious_ for crappy wifi. This is an issue in my place, my parent's place and my brother's place. Each location required a wifi booster of some kind else the doorbell wouldn't pickup enough of the wifi signal to function properly.

In my case, the doorbell is outside of our entrance door. We have a Netgear Orbi satellite inside our home on the floor right by the entrance door. No more issues with wifi and the doorbell once the satellite was in place. 'course, the foyer is a central location in our place, so the entire apartment benefited from it.

If you're in the Wyze ecosystem and its working well for you then you should likely stick with it unless there's a specific reason not to.

I have a Ring that I'm pretty happy with.

Not a real answer, -- but since we are a new build -- *every* house comes standard with a ring. There are prob 1000 within a 1/2 mile radius. Pulling into the entrance of our little division would have you driving by approx 15 ring doorbells. Closer to 25 if you go out the back way.

my wife think its ugly, I agree, and thankfully we live in a quiet hood, so we are getting rid of it. Now if I could just get rid of the annoyingly hard to set nest, Id be happy.

thanks, all. going to wander to Microcenter this evening and pick up the Wyze cam. And they also don't play with the Police State surveillance plan like Ring does. No thanks.

Cbelt,

It isn't that easy for police to obtain access to your Ring cam and/or footage recorded by it and especially not easy without your permission.

I just bought the Wyze and like it better than our Ring, with the exception that it doesn’t integrate with our doorbell chime (like the Ring does). It comes with a chime you plug into an outlet, which is actually louder than our doorbell, and has many chime options - so, in a sense it is an upgrade. Robert M makes a vital point in that you must have an existing doorbell (or at least the wiring) in order to power the Wyze. One other bonus is that you don’t have to pay a subscription fee for the Wyze service. We were paying $30/year for Ring monitoring service.

You do not have to subscribe to Rings monitoring service. It's optional.

Stay away from ADT's video doorbell. Used to have Ring at the old house - no problems. Nothing but issues with ADT's at the new home. Wife has already told them to come take it away and refund our money.

Not only that, but Ring offers unlimited monitoring / alarm service for $100/year ... that's pretty good, considering it includes ALL devices, and you also get 10% off the purchase of any new devices with them.

If you don’t pay for a Ring subscription can you still get alerts and play back clips? I got my ring over 2 years ago and thought I had to pay for these options. I had it on autopay and haven’t paid attention to any new terms.

I think the answer to that is yes, but I'm not sure ... if you don't pay for the subscription, I can imagine that they don't hold on to the recordings for very long.

Eufy doorbell

I'm trying to find one that supports RTSP or ONVIF streams so that I can record to my NAS.
