He gets to test all the coolest stuff!

I'm not a truck guy, but I really want to see it really take off and move the eV goal posts closer.

Thank you for the link.

If I could afford it, I'd love it. I need a truck for projects. None of our vehicles can fit a sheet of plywood. It'd also be my daily driver. Since I don't drive that far to and from work every day, that would work for me too. Plus it's electric. Win win for everyone.

Just the cost. Yeesh!

That is me too. Pickups used to be affordable transportation but now it is luxury priced. I need to go from point A to Point B, generally about 20-miles a day. All I want is AC, Automatic, and electric windows [and those aren't a deal braker] - I don't care about the heated, massaging, mink hide bucket seats or LED accent lighting. The truck computer does not need to do my biorhythms or discuss the economics of the Sub-Saharan Nomads.

So I'll look for a used 12-year-old F150 and be happy

For price comparison, I just googled the price of the current 2021 F150 Crew Cab and at the XL trim level it’s $40K and the XLT trim level is $50K with 3.6 L Ecoboost V6. So The upcoming F150 Lightning seems to be available at the same prices as this years gas engine.

The F150 Lightning looks like a winner to me.

A few non truck people on my FB feed posted about this vehicle. It could be pretty transformative to this country at that price point. It is an automatic 4x4 with crew cab seating for 5 and utility without the bad gas mileage.

Maybe the most appealing thing to me is that the battery is big enough to power moderate household energy consumption for days, in case there's a power failure.

That’s a definite plus. Beats running a generator.

i think a lot of people don’t realize that $40k is the new normal for a vehicle these days. still gulp territory for me but apparently not for others. i bought my 2013 Volt for $13k in 2016. that trim level was $40k for whoever the first owner was.

This can go further. Coupled with vehicle to grid, you're home solar installation can theoretically cost you nothing and in fact make you a little bit of money every month.

Plenty of towing capacity for very short trips. C/D has publicly placed a bet that you’d barely get more than 100miles on a full charge when near the 10,000 lb capacity.

10,000 is what our ‘89 C3500 dually is rated for. Plenty to pull a regular 4-horse horse trailer, although not competitive to modern trucks. Its range is only a couple hundred miles on the standard 25-gal tank. But two tanks was an option.

The new Lightning will be fantastic for short-hop needs of any kind, but there will be millions of potential buyers that can’t use it for personal transportation just to see what’s on sale at the Bass Pro Shop on weekends.

Agreed, bought my first car new although significantly under msrp. Now I think I know enough to avoid buying new again. Too many other things I'd prioritize before a car.

Maybe for part of the country? In the last 25 years I don't the power hasn't gone "out" here for more than maybe a hour or 2 maybe 1 or 2 times. And it was localized.

Im envisioning going camping and finding these people have brought a 500 ft extension cord.... plus their 85" TV w/soundbar.=)

He thinks the engineers thought of just about everything.

I just watched his review and it was excellent.

No doubt there will be those who just can't wait to find fault for no reason other to find fault.

But it does seem that the Lightning is a very well thought out truck, if not perfect for every driver on the planet.

I've I were to have an eV, I really think this might be The One.

Never having to borrow a friend's P/U alone would be huge.

And not having to make a choice between a trunk or a bed really is a big deal to me, enter the Front Trunk.

When mentioning this to someone, he went into Condescending Car Guy Mode – 'Every eV has one' as though I didn't know that.

'And can those every eVs carry a motorcycle, fridge, or armoire?'

'Safely stow luggage or presents?'

'I didn't think so.'

And a couple of the styling cues I really line are the grille (!) and the full width light bars.

I'll make a trip to see one, if there's ever a dealer demo.

The one feature I could do without on a full feature trim line, is a sun roof.

I have one in my car and only open it on a really hot day, just to let the heat out long enough for the A/C to work.

The slide is retracted often so a non-opening moon roof would be my choice.

Anyway...

Actually, not all do. I watched a review of the Volkswagen ID.4. no frunk.

Same. I really didn't think the space would be that voluminous.

I'm glad I didn't bet on that.

Same here.

And I thought it was on the smallish size.

Positively cavernous compare to previous years' model.

Besides being 'over' sunroofs, the only thing I really do not care for is the rims.

I'm particularly fussy about rims and don't that the look of those one bit.

Could they be swapped out as easily as on ICE vehicles?

I'm really liking this truck.
