No coverage for that under auto insurance. Maybe under homeowners but that would be subject to the policy’s deductible- ie no coverage.

Well bummer. Call your credit card company (that you purchased the phone with) and see if they offer purchase protection for accidents, etc. Some do. Good luck!

Hopefully you had it backing up to iCloud...
If so, restoring that backup to your new phone should be quite easy (they'll probably do that at the cell phone store where you go to activate your new phone).

If you don't have it backing up to iCloud... well... that's gonna be a good bit harder. Might still be possible if you have a cell phone repair shop that can get your phone working just long enough for it to transfer to your new one.

Remember there are plenty of videos, and guides on the internet about fixing the home button, but if you need to replace with another you purchase, as they say on iFixit site,

Please note that only the phone's original home button assembly will be capable of using the Touch ID functionality. Installing a new home button will only restore ordinary home button functions, not the Touch ID features.

Yesterday I had an appointment at the Apple Store for a battery replacement on my phone. As it was going to take much longer than I had originally thought (unbeknownst to me, the battery was swelling) I went out to the car to get something to occupy me. On the way back in to the mall, I saw something just under a car: someone had lost an iPhone and if the driver of the car didn't see it, it would have been crushed when they backed out of the parking spot. So, Sam, you are not alone here.

To finish the story, I picked up the phone and as I turned it over, the car chirped. I thought "Cool, I gotta get me one of those! What kind of car?" I looked at the car, then at the phone, then the car, and back to the phone, when a lady walked up with a key in her hand warily asking me if there was a problem. I explained that I had found this phone, and before I could say "And it unlocked the car!" I realized that she was the owner of the car, and most likely the phone as well. I handed it to her and assured her all the while that there was no problem and I was glad to return her phone to her.

Nothing like losing the phone that has EVERYTHING in it.

....did she at least thank you......??

.....many don't say that nowadays.....this guy on subway pulled his phone out of his pants pocket and some money fell out when he did.....i pointed out to him......he didn't even say 'thank you' or give an acknowledging look........

it's also possible that the owner had coincidentally unlocked the car remotely as she approached or the car had a proximity sensor that auto unlocks when the remote is close by.
