One of life's greatest small pleasures...

... is opening a new can of whole coffee beans and seeing those little guys glisten in all their oily goodness.

Not to mention the aroma!

It is what it is.

Indeed. I always grind FRESH before each brew, I have a Baratza Virtuoso + and store the bean in a air tight container. But I agree, a fresh bag you see those shiny beans, it goes away after a few days, even in an airtight snap ware contained.

I have the exact same set up and also grind fresh before each brew. French presser here.

Someday I will have to take a sip of a cup of coffee. I’ve had no desire to do so these past 70 years but maybe someday.

Mine comes in a bag, but same feeling and sensation.

I had a nightmare during this last year that there might be some sort of blight to the coffee bean crop. Now talk about reasons to stop living!

Same... for me the smell of coffee is blech. Parents didn't drink it, or my dad did, but only at work, so never in the house, didn't rub off.

Huh! I was the "coffee server" when I was a kid. I would hear "bring me back a coffee!" from both my Mom and Dad who were both huge coffee hounds.

I may have drank one, maybe two cups my entire life. I literally HATE the stuff! No small pleasure for me to smell it. Blech is the appropriate term.

Mr. Lahey: A lot of people, don’t know how to drink. They drink against the grain of the liquor. And when you drink against the grain of the liquor? You lose.

I love the smell of coffee.

One of my favorite memories as a kid is the smell of coffee from the snack bar, on a cold winter night at the drive-in.

One of my non-favorite memories as a kid is dipping a cake donut into my dad's coffee (black).

Ruined a chuck of a delicious cake donut.

The only time coffee has ever touched my lips.

Never had a desire to tasted it after that.

Love the smell, but the taste is so bitter (taken straight).

Not a coffee drinker here. Only time I do is if I'm on a long road trip and I haven't had enough sleep the night before, and so start feeling drowsy.

I immediately get a tall cup of straight black coffee with no sugar or junk in it. Stick it in front of the air conditioning vent to rapidly cool it (how can anyone drink burning hot coffee?...like I said I'm not a coffee drinker). Drink it once it is warm. Highly effective on me (because I don't normally drink coffee). It's a wonderful drug.

I use a caffeinated soft drink for the same purpose except lately my prostate doesn’t let me drink much on long drives.

This pandemic year I started to get fresh roasted varietals delivered. Four different each month, give or take. The spectrum of flavors between the varietals is vast, and the fresh roast a big, very positive change.

Apologies to the anonymous forum member affected by my previous sig pic. It was my personal pic of a country expressing great grief as their leader, one of the most recognized people in the world, lay on his deathbed 8 years ago, days before he died. Like a naif, I did not realize it was offensively political, I considered it an expression of deep emotion and a reminder of the mortal coil's nature; that we all, great and small, can only hope to make a difference in our short time here, no matter the personal cost.

I'll post another pic from my work in South Africa that is, hopefully, apolitical.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid the sugar. A third of the time though I end up getting a Red Bull or Monster instead of the coffee.

it is an acquired taste. Similar on how the first few times you drink beer you don't like it, for the same reason, it's bitter. But after a while you enjoy it. Same with coffee.

And then perhaps you graduate to amaros and medicinal bitters!

Growing up, I never really liked coffee, my parents drank it, I did not care for it. Then at some point, I tried coffee WITHOUT sugar. I loved it!. As I say now, I want my coffee to taste like coffee, I drink it without sugar and maybe just a small splash of low-fat milk to make it dark brown, not black.

I urge anyone that thinks coffee is bitter to try a high quality coffee bean. I fell in love with 100% Kona coffee from Hawaii. Yes it's expensive, yes it is really good. My wife set up a coffee of the moth shipped to me for a present last year. Grind as I go, good stuff.
This is my treat, it's not every cup I drink.

Was it this forum that exposed me to Funranium Labs and Black Blood of the Earth coffee?

Not a coffee drinker, it's an interesting web site. I ordered a sample pack for my wife. She never really gave me any feedback. This is from someone who has two Nespresso machines, one at home and another at work.

Personally, I was not even tempted to try a taste. (I've also spent a week at a Las-Vegas casino for a juggling festival and forgot to gamble.)
