I have an Airport Extreme (cone) currently in use, and a Canon Pixma MP530, which is an all-in-one. I'd like to make the MP530 available on the network while still having scanning ability. Currently, it's hooked up to my iMac and available to my family Macs via my Sharing control panel. In this manner, I have scanner capability and we all have printing access.
If I go MacBook Pro, I will often not be physically hooked up to the printer. As established, I cannot use the scanner over the Airport.
Is there an A/B USB switch setup I can use? The way I figure it, the A/B would be hooked up to the MP530, with two USB cables going to (a) my MacBook Pro (when it's eventually got) and (b) to the Airport.
On paper, it looks like it would work. Am I forgetting anything? Anyone with experience with this? Any recommendations on A/B switches?
