Could use a positive thought or prayer. Update: Got a good report!
Posted by: Grateful11
Date: June 16, 2021 09:35AM
An ultrasound Monday is showing something on my liver. I'm having a CT Scan without and with contrast this afternoon.

Also was removed from my Flomax due to some heart issues I had over the weekend, Urologist won't put me on anything else to help me pee until I've seen a Cardiologist, I'm seeing one next Tuesday. I'm still on schedule for my Prostate biopsy on June 29th.

Fingers crossed for you Grateful11. Hang in there…

Reminds me a bit of my travails. CT scan for prostate cancer revealed enlarged adrenal glands, bless that radiologist for noting that. Adrenal biopsy revealed lymphoma, completely unrelated to prostate cancer. I’m almost four years past treatment for both and, fingers crossed, seem to be doing well.

Please let us know further details as they arrive, we are pulling for you to surmount these challenges.

We live in an age of unimagined medical miracles. Brought to life by fanatically dedicated men and women of great learning and brilliance, standing on the shoulders of giants past. This is your front line.

Behind them is the might of those near and dear to you, brining the strength of their love, an unquenchable fire. At their backs are all of us. Friends and acquaintances with our earnest hopes for only the best of outcomes for you.

You are armored in all this. Draw strength there. We are with you.

First off thanks so much for all the positive thoughts and prayers.

Got a good report on my liver. Originally the ultrasound showed possible, Hepatocellular disease which is really bad. Everything looks normal as far as spline, gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys and more. They pushed this through as Stat so they made me wait on the results at the imaging center.

They said it still doesn't answer as to why I have constant stomach bloat, I have to make myself eat basically because right now I've gone 18 hours without eating and I'm not a bit hungry. So we'll go from here, probably a GI Dr. for this issue.

I'm trying to answer this between lots phone calls, sorry.

Any reason to suspect an obstruction in the vascular system or bile-ducts in your liver? A "spot" in a basic ultrasound is not greatly meaningful and I can see why they'd want a CT with contrast (or MRCP), but I'd also expect blood tests looking for elevated liver enzymes and cancer-markers.

Were you working with a hepatic specialist?

No, just my PC physician, a Urologist and a Cardiologist next week at this time.

Here's CT results:
IMPRESSION:
No acute findings. Essentially normal CT appearance of the liver.

FINDINGS:
The lung bases are within normal limits.

ABDOMEN:
Precontrast and postcontrast images demonstrate normal size liver containing a few small nonenhancing cysts in the left and right lobes. Otherwise there is normal hepatic parenchymal enhancement without suspicious solid nodules. Normal capsular contour, no obvious cirrhotic features. The hepatic veins and portal veins are patent. No apparent varices. The spleen is normal in size. The pancreas is within normal limits. Gallbladder is normal. No bile duct dilation. The distal esophagus, stomach, and included portions of the small and large bowel appear normal. Normal appendix. No mesenteric lymphadenopathy or omental nodules. No free intraperitoneal fluid or air.
No adrenal nodules are identified. The kidneys are within normal limits.
The retroperitoneum is unremarkable. The major vascular structures are age appropriate. Lower lumbar posterior decompression and fusion hardware. No acute bony findings.

Minutes before my CT Scan: POC CREAT 1.0 mg/dL 0.8 - 1.3 mg/dL

Over 5 years worth of tests. Creatinine 0.76 - 1.27 mg/dL 0.96 0.96 0.88 0.86 0.91 0.90 1.10 0.98 0.94 1.03

That's not what I'd be looking for.

ALT/AST/ALP (or a full metabolic profile) along with CA19-9 and GGT for a preliminary check with suspected liver-obstruction or hepatocellular disease. These are the standard tests.

My guess is that your doctor(s) didn't think there was anything really wrong, but felt the need for the CT on the basis of the 1st test, just to cover their butts.

I get that all the time. Had a bunch of sonograms, CT scans and MRIs for a health issue last year and every one had some comment from the radiologist or examining physician about a spot or a streak or some organ that looked a mm larger than it should, each one requiring a consult with a specialist.
