Why can’t they mix two flavors? Anyhow, it would have been cheaper to buy one of each flavor and mix your own than to face charges.

Of course, this isn’t about menu choices. We hear about people flipping out over nothing almost every day and some result in fatalities.

Most likely it's the 'if we do it for one, we have to do it for everybody' policy.

That's why there are menus in the first place.

The question shouldn't be 'why can't they...' to which the proper response is 'We don't do that'.

The question should be 'why the sense of entitlement and expectation to get what isn't offered'.

While investigating the incident, police determined that Cleveland became irate after being told by staff that it wasn’t possible to mix flavors of a slushy drink together, WKYC reports.

It's possible, they just didn't want to do it. At some restaurants I go to, the soft drink fountain is out for all to use, but the iced tea is behind the counter. I always ask if they can mix the sweet and unsweet because the sweet is always WAY to sweet for me. I've never had anyone say no.

Also to be considered:
Cust: I want half A and half C.

Server makes it.

Cust:
  • That’s not half A and half C. I can tell.
  • That’s not half A and half E. I can tell.
  • You put in too much A!
  • You put in too much C!
  • That’s fine. Now for the next three…

First of all, I'm ashamed of myself for even clicking the link to the article. But since I did, I have to say I enjoyed the response from the employee behind the counter who said, "Do not touch me, I’ll destroy you!"

My first thought (completely unsubstantiated) is high-volume restaurant chains monitor inventory so closely that dispensing less-than-full cups would appear as some sort of problem.

I wonder if the one employee will be dismissed for hitting back on the floor? That arguably went beyond self-defense.

I'm not defending the customer or blaming the employee, just dealing with corporate America. Working in a school, we know that anything beyond pure defense (block the punch, don't strike back) will likely get you dismissed with a professional conduct investigation.

True dat.

This is the same corporate American that fires employees for trying to fight off/apprehend a robber.

I understand and agree with the perspective that 'it's only money, no need to get hurt, don't be a hero' but firing an employee for doing so has always struck me as hitting a thumbtack with a sledgehammer.

And yes, self-defense could be a little iffy, but the employee did go old-school, fists of fury, no knife or gun.

I'd be tempted to give the employee some vacation time to let things cool off a little.

She did get cold-clocked twice.
