Cleaning house, Any reason to keep Graphite base station?

Also have a Graphite base station with modem that I used to share dial-up. Now I have DSL with a Netgear router.

Any value in a Graphite Base station?

I tried to figure out if it could be used as a access point but I don't think it can, Any one know for sure?

I believe it was the snow colored ones that have the airport card.

What happened to your Netgear 814?

Thats what I have been using with no problems so far.

Graphite = 802.11b. That card inside is worth $$$

If you're just gonna toss it, I could use one smiling smiley

The graphite models do not have an AirPort card, sorry. The white original models with modems have AirPort cards and the cone-shaped Extreme base stations have Extreme AirPort cards. The original graphite base stations have a proprietary wireless card that is useless. The graphite models also get very hot and have problems with their power supplies. I'm surprised it still works.

To repeat what zachdog said:

The Graphite base stations do not have the airport cards in them, it is in fact the snow ones that do.

The original base station (known as Graphite) featured a modem and an Ethernet port. It was based on the same Lucent WaveLAN Bronze PC Card as the AirPort Card

I took one of those Lucent cards out of a graphite and used it in my G4digital audio and it works just fine. It did require some modification to the G4's case however.

The Lucent WaveLan cards used in the Graphite ABS are recognized as Airport cards by Apple software. Mine had a Silver card, not the Bronze. I still have a Graphite ABS, but I can't remember if I pulled the card out or not..... I'll look sometime when I'm going to be listing some stuff on eBay.

What it is, man, a low-down and funky feelin'

Some say the Lucent cards work better on PC slot load Powerbooks because they extend outside the case.

I am still using a Graphite ABS for wireless (almost 5 or 6 years) and it is still chugging along (knock on wood). Works great with my iBook G4. It is upstairs in the Bedroom and I can sit in my driveway, on front porch or side yard and still get a decent signal.

I have a Powerbook with a Airport card inside and lose the signal if I leave the room.

I think I may spring for a new Base station soon, maybe.

Try a Motorola WN825G in your PowerBook, it really does make a difference having the antenna outside of the TiBook case.
