$5.00 for the first person to help me crack Acrobat PDF Password protection.

Ok, I've googled, and googled, and googled and have yet to figure out a good solution to removing password protection on several PDF documents. We have 2-3 internal PDF and about 5-10 brochures from a company we distribute products for where we would like to add our contact information on the PDF. We have contacted the manufacture that we rep for and they don't know the password because the guy that created them no longer works there. I was able to take one one of the files in preview and SAVE AS PDF to remove the password protection. However, this hasn't been a good solution on the rest of the documents.

I'm using 10.3.9 so if you have a software that can help me that would be great as well.

Anyone that has a working answer I'll paypal you $5.00.

Thanks!
Bill

I am not a .pdf expert, but have you tried opening the file in Preview and then printing it. When it asks you which printer, try the PDF button and see if that somehow strips the password.

Just a thought.

Try this. I just found it on versiontracker. Looks like it works for me in demo mode for a single page. Only $20 to buy if it fits your needs.

I've used this program before to unlock a pdf that I needed to print:

Ovis pdf-RecoverPro

It worked great.

Our developers over in Japan are always password locking our product manuals. I use: Advanced PDF Password Recovery. works like a charm but only on PC, I believe:

That looks like it works. Looks like I need to buy the $20 version which is well worth it right now. Thanks.

I think I've done it by opening in Preview and scrolling throught the pages. I did this in Panther. Go to the "view" menu and click "continuous" under the "PDF Display" item in the menu. Hopefully this still works and that I remembered this right.

kahuna1342's solution worked great (johnc, you were a post too late but thanks for your help as well)... So, I will meet my end of the bargain as soon as I get a Paypal address (or a mailing address if you want a check).

Thanks for everyone's help. Just fixed 10 PDF's... Now, wonder if I should put the password protection back in the PDF's... ;)

True, really good thread!

Anyone else question how lame Adobe's file security is if PDFKey Pro makes it so easy to defeat?

I've used it a heap of times with 100% success rate so far.

I'm a little late to the game, and I have a question:

Does this PDFKey Pro software defeat the password protection on a locked file, or does it allow saving a locked file, after you have opened it successfully with a password, as something unsecured?

As far as I know PDFKEY only LOCKS or UNLOCKS the PDF file "security" and "password protection" from a PDF. I basically had 40-45 PDF files from someone we represent. We have these PDF's available for download on our website and are starting to notice that these catalogs are downloaded MORE than our own brochures. So, we want our contact information on their brochure. If we hand a customer a brochure from this company we represent we have a sticker applied to the brochure so our customer knows to call us (hey, they may just call direct and it has happened). So, we used PDFKEY to unlock all of these locked PDF files, imported the first page into quark, placed the EPS of the sticker on the cover, created a PDF of page one then replaced page one of 40-45 brochures and manuals. Worked great.

I'm not sure you could unlock a actual file w/ it. If you are administrator of the computer you can just get info and change the security rights of that particular file. PDFKey just removes the security B/s from within a PDF. I'm sure Adobe isn't too happy but that's their problem.

PDF Unlock bounty payment has been paid to kahuna1342. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and johnc, sorry you didn't post a minute earlier.

Hopefully I don't have to attach $$$$$ for every question for now on. smiling smiley This was a special occasion and I needed an answer and it was worth the $5.00 + $20.00 for the program.

I figured that it was a time critical problem and figured it was well worth the $$$$$$$ for my work to spend.

Thanks again.
