Anyone Tried the Fishless Fish? (Plant-based fish...)

All this tuna talk in the Subway threads has me thinking about this fish story I recently read. The canned "tuna" product sounds quite tasty. I must admit I don't eat much seafood these days on account of long-line fishing/bycatch, overfishing, slavery, pollution, etc.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new crop of shrimp/tuna/etc that isn't, and what did you think of it? I've been impressed by the plant-based burgers, and buy them fairly regularly now. Haven't tried the plant-based seafood yet.

I have not, but isn't plant based seafood called seaweed? Sorry, I couldn't kelp myself.

It's on my list of things to try out. We're using a lot of Beyond products and Chik'n products these days. Reducing our fish consumption is probably next.

Mix enough mayo in, I'm sure it'll taste fine.

I'll buy the real stuff.

Good Catch Non-Tuna ingredients: Water, Good Catch 6-plant Protein Blend (Pea Protein Isolate, Soy Protein Concentrate, Chickpea Flour, Lentil Protein, Faba Protein, Navy Bean Flour), Algal Oil, Sea Salt, Sunflower Oil, Seaweed Powder (Seaweed, Salt), Citric Acid, Onion Powder, Yeast Extract (Yeast, Salt), Garlic Powder, Soy Lecithin.

Bumble Bee Solid White Albacore Tuna ingredients: White Tuna, Water, Vegetable Broth, Sea Salt.

You want fake fish, it is only $5 for a footlong at Subway.

I agree!

Although I prefer Starkist white albacore packed in water over the Bumble Bee. I don't know why. confused smiley

Fake meat/fish is only going to get better and cheaper over time, and the environmental impact is a big plus.

100+ years ago when plastics were being introduced, they were all colored/textured/... to look like the material they replaced. Then, they began to look like plastic. I'd guess that soon the meat and fish replacements will do the same.
