Is there any app or tool to repair this drive?

I can occasionally see the internal drive on this MacBook Pro 12,1. And when I boot off an external usb to the same thing we would see on the recovery partition. This morning I saw 2 partitiions for the Mac HD. The smaller one I ran disk first aid, and all was fine. I ran it on the DATA portion, (Much larger) and it got this error, and left the drives unmounted. Any thoughts? Any hope? All of this is a CATALINA OS.

I see tons of stuff online about this error, that is visible in this picture FS ROOT TREE IS INVALID

Booted into recovery partition, and Terminal List, so its there is Data Partition of the internal 500gig, that won't repair with Disktools

I would not recommend this unless you have tried everything else - as you appear to have done. I have not had the occasion to try this software but for what it’s worth, this could work. Enough weasel words for you? [www.stellarinfo.com]

Whatever OS that is, DiskWarrior would have been my goto but it won't repair an APFS disk.

These softwares that do go outside of apple's sandbox always worry me if I hadn't heard of them before. Often, a quick glance at their webpage will indicate that there is something wrong - like no address or phone number for contact.

This operation looked really good, but being a bored sunday, I dug a little deeper than usual and found something weird.

They list 3 addresses with phone numbers - one in New Jersey, one in Belgium and one in India - this is just what I'm looking for! Looks really good, but I go one more step and look up the New Jersey address, 48 Bridge St, Metuchen, NJ.

It looks like that address vanished when the train was built: [www.google.com]

Everything else that I looked at looked so legit, that I wonder if there is some reasonable explanation for this ????, but I would certainly try to contact them before I used this software.

[edit: still bored - the Belgium location seems to belong to a data center called Black Box: [www.blackbox.nl]

Did you ever check the drive's status with SMART Utility?

If there are lots of bad sectors on the drive, forget it.

I wouldn't try any software disk-repair without 1st knowing whether the drive is dying. If it's a bad drive then any read/write operations could be bringing it closer to total failure and all of your data gone for good.

(Disk Utility or fsck are really all you've got with APFS and any cheap 3rd party software claiming to do APFS repair is probably just slapping a GUI on the fsck command.)

Google Maps is notoriously inaccurate with street numbers, I wouldn't
let it bother me. Folks have posted reviews for the biz, so it's likely
there "under the trees'; just not where Google sez it is.

The software I suggested does not claim to repair APFS disks. It’s file recovery only. And since there is a free limited use version available, what does the op have to lose? Or he can just wait for an APFS-qualified version of DiskWarrior or TechTool or Drive Genius.

Didn't bother to click the link because the link looks like one for one of those rip-off sites where they market cr@pware. "Stellar" is used in the name of a bunch of apps that I habitually treat as malware and eliminate on-sight.

If it were me, I'd try cloning the disk to another disk and then attempt a repair on the cloned disk. That way all your accesses to the failed disk are just reads, not read/writes so you're not running the risk of doing further damage to the failed disk while attempting to recover the contents.

And for the cloning I'd try something that does a block-by-block copy rather than one that attempts to follow file links. The "dd" utility would be my first choice for this.
