Is there a name for this kind of smile?

I keep thinking "Joker Smile" but that only gets me bad lip inflation pics!

Katie Nolan and Elle Duncan of ESPN, both have these really big, really smiley smiles. Is there a name for it?

San Antonio, TX (in the old city)

Is there a name for this kind of smile?

That depends on how you're choosing to characterize said smiles or what motivation you're ascribing to them.

Sometime a really sincere smile may be hard to effect when someone raised a camera or says 'SMILE!'.

I think it's just a "big smile."

That's how I roll.

I think it's just a "big smile."

In my day and part of the world, the term “big, broad* smile” was commonplace.

*“Broad” as in wide, not the vulgarism used to refer to women.

We got sunlight on the sand
We got moonlight on the sea
We got mangos and bananas
You can pick right off the tree
We got volleyball and ping-pong
And a lot of dandy games
What ain't we got?
We ain't got dames

We get packages from home
We get movies we get shows
We get speeches from our skipper
And advice from Tokyo Rose (was a @#$%&. radio station at ware time)
We get letters doused with perfume
We get dizzy from the smell
What don't we get?
You know darn well

We got nothing to put on a clean white suit for,
What we need is what there ain't no substitue for

There is nothing like a dame, nothing in the world
There is nothing you can name that is anything like a dame

We feel restless we feel blue
We feel lonely and in grief
We feel every kind of feeling
But the feeling of relief
We feel hungry as the wolf felt
when he met red riding hood
What don't we feel? we don't feel good

Lots of things in life are beautiful but brother,
There is one particular thing that is nothing whatsoever in any shape or form
like any other

There is nothing like a dame, nothing in the world
There is nothing you can name that is anything like a dame

Nothing else is built the same,
Nothing in the world
Has the soft and wavy frame
Like the silhouette of a dame

There's absolutely nothing
like the frame of a dame

So suppose a dame ain't bright
Or completly free from flaws
Or as faithful as a bird dog
Or as kind as santa clause
It's a waste of time to worry
Over things that they have not
Be thankful for the things they've got

There is nothing you can name
That is anything like a dame
There are no books like a dame
And nothing looks like a dame
There are no drinks like a dame
And nothing thinks like a dame
Nothing acts like a dame
Or attracts like a dame
There ain't a thing thats wrong with any man here
That can't be cured by putting him near
a girly, womanly, female, feminine dame

For the newsreaders, with all that's happening in the world, I'd say "creepy."

Don Henley's Dirty Laundry comes to mind:
"We got the bubble-headed bleach-blonde who comes on at five
She can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die..."

No expert in this, but if the smile is forced, I think it doesn’t tend to involve the eyes (as much).

So, #1 looks largely real (and includes back head tilt), #2 looks partially forced, 3 and 4 look largely forced (to me).

I remember Linda Ellerby on NBC News Overnight during the Iran hostage crisis. She later wrote a book where she characterized the standard news reader female as a "Twinky." That word referred to the overall intellectual presentation rather than to any one thing, but there is something to that word in these photos, particularly how forced the smiles are.

I think these are women who have practiced smiling in a way that they think is the most flattering. It's not that they aren't smiling, but they are controlling the smile.

Our young niece does that. To me, she always looks like she's faking her smile, even if I'm there and know she is truly happy.

Agreed.

As presenters of some form or another, they're expected to flash a big/broad toothy smile on command, and frequently, so 'practiced' is an apt word.

Their smiles might be different in a setting where they're comfortable and at ease, and having a good/great time.
