Apple News - starting to feel scammy

Seems like the more I use it, the more subscription only articles show up. Kinda like its running an algorithm on my usage and targeting my preferences with subscription articles. I call BS.

and targeting my preferences with subscription articles.

Are these articles that try to induce you to subscribe to Apple News, or to subscribe to other sources (if that even happens in Apple News)?

I don't know if you're using a trial version of Apple News.

I’m getting the opinion that my iPhone thinks I’m a vapid idiot.

Going to have to “like” more stuff associated with nature and the environment. Maybe then the right wing nonsense will stop appearing.

It’s the old “My TiVo thinks I’m gay” problem.

if you've been clicking on subscription articles to read then of course the algorithm is going to think you like those and show you more. it's a feature not a bug.

Actually, it is running an algorithm, but you have some control over it:
News —>Clear History—>clear recommendations
News —>Clear History—>reset identifier

where/how do you put that it to run it?

Spacetime is being a weener. You go to settings, then to news, then there’s a switch you switch to reset the identifier. I’m hesitant because I like some of the stuff it has finally realized I like to read. But probably 70% I can’t look at without subscribing.

What would Spacetime do?

What would kj do?

I am from the camp that I did not get a Mac to do code. AppleScript kicked my A$$. I will on occasion do terminal.

All answers are appreciated.

When I go online with a machine I see all of the code or ladder logic. I can search and see how a change here may affect something elsewhere.

The problem with terminal or command line is that I do not get to see the big picture. It is a blind leap of faith that I do not know how to undo.

Spacetime was joking around. There's no terminal here. Just settings in "settings".

Apple News is a paid service. It should come as no surprise that once Apple figures out which articles a reader most wants to read It places them behind the paywall — that’s the only incentive available to the company to get the reader to pay for the service. I certainly wouldn’t classify this as “scammy.”

It is what it is.

What I find spammy is the fact that the "Subscription" tag on articles seems to be deliberately placed far away from the headline, so that it looks like it applies more to the article below it.

I wouldn't refer to it as "scammy," but it feels intentionally misleading.

It feels coercive, for sure. Maybe manipulative.

Oh, plus, yesterday I couldn't read a Business Insider article on News, but switched to my PC and read it free. I don't know what the deal is there.

I can't read anything from Business Insider on my Macs unless I turn off all my ad blockers.

With them off, BI is free with ads.
