I've watched a few and have been mostly disappointed.
Marvel.
I liked the 1st Spidy and Iron Man.
Black Panther dull.
Avengers stoopit (and I will try anything SJ is in).
and one other I don't recall.

And DC stuff.
Batman '89 I liked.
Wonder Woman, dull.
Joker, really?

Any suggestion of another to try or should I stick to Cheerios.?

The first Thor film is good, I've heard the second one is as well. The X-Men series is good, as is the Wolverine origins one.

I liked the first Batman film a lot, really a lot.

After that, the franchise was downhill for me.

Elements of the Bale years could have made the first a bit better, and Heath's Joker was the very best ever.

The first Iron Man was terrific, the rest not so much.

And I really liked Dr. Strange, and it exceeded my expectations, even though I raised the bar when I heard Cumberbatch would be starring.

Aquaman?

PLEASE, nomoa Jason Mamoa.

Ever.

Ok, he was really good in Braven, and I suspect the director say 'A little less Momoa, Jason'.

The first Ant-Man was very good, the second one was maybe pretty good.

Good God, enough Spider-Man movies.

I liked Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds though it could have and should have been done much better.

His Deadpool was also very good, and I did not expect to like it one bit.

And I am a huge fan of Black Panther which was hugely entertaining.

A lot of the Avenger/Marvel stuff just gets lost in the noise for me, with Marvel cranking out movies every week.

The TV series are much more entertaining for me.

I liked the first Guardians of the Galaxy a lot.

We just got caught up on the Captain America movies and the recent TV series. I think those are excellent cinema that are highly underrated.

The Marvel movies (generally speaking, since the first Iron Man) are almost all perfectly good light entertainment, and well-executed. Even the relative clunkers (Guardians 2, Captain Marvel, Thor 3--don't @ me, I know I'm an outlier on that one) are watchable. "Don't suck" is really my only criteria here, and only the Hulk movie stumbled into genuine suckitude. Other than that they're almost all light on their feet and don't forget the Prime Directive of popcorn movies: be entertaining first, and worry about everything else later.

DC has been much more hit and miss. Wonder Woman (the first one, I haven't seen the sequel) is one perfectly charming hour sandwiched by two ridiculous and boring half-hours. Both versions of Justice League are boring, and "BVS," the less said, the better. I don't love the recent Batman trilogy as much as most (Nolan is far too in love with his characters stopping the action to make speeches), but they're certainly well made.

I’ve seen most and enjoy the vast majority.

Two I did not like was Justice League and all of the Transformers movies were below average. I don’t know how Steven Spielberg got roped into directing the Transformers. The transformers have great CGI and not much story. The original Transformer movie was the best of the lot. They should have stopped after that one.

Compared to... what? As in, is there another movie in the genre you think is the best of the class... just so we can get a feel of what your "bar" might be?

I think your bar might be a little too high. ;)

Plenty of web sites rate the marvel movies in order of "best"... if you want a movie persons opinion.

think you're right there.

Most Bond flicks up to Daniel Craig I like.
And, as I said, I did like Batman '89, Iron Man 1 and Spidy 1.

But I will say, I'm not too much on long winded Hollywoo film.
90 mins should be enough to tell most stories.

I liked the first Batman film a lot, really a lot.

After that, the franchise was downhill for me.

Adam West and Burt Ward really made a fun film, Toss in "criminals" playerd by the likes of Cesar Romaro (who didn't even shave his mustache), and Burgis Meredith. The whole franchise was downhill from there as it took itself too seriously.

As for recent superhero films, I'm not much of a fan but Ant Man was fun. It also did not tqke itself seriously.

I haven't seen most of them, but I did like the first two Spiderman movies (with Tobey Maguire, not the later ones), X-Men Days of Future Past, Dr. Strange (I prefer the animated version, though the live version was also OK), and the first Captain America movie. I tend to like Marvel better than DC. Oh, and don't forget The Crow ... that's a legendary film for a lot of reasons, but especially because it was Brandon Lee's last film.

Given your batting average and opinions of some of the ones you’ve seen, sounds like the film adaptations just aren’t up your alley. Some of the ones that just didn’t do it for you are the ones considered the best by many fans, comicheads or not. That reads to me like what they’re looking to sell isn’t what you’re looking to buy. Nobody wrong in that scenario.

RAMd®d‘s suggestion of trying the television productions is a good one. The TV show, while still true to the genre overall, generally do have a different feel of their own.

If I was making up a ‘tasting menu’ it would look like this (Trailers linked to each title),
  • Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Straight up comic book action, but (very) light on the costumes. LOTS of fun and interesting character development. Despite its name/bloodline, it’s also pretty much free of James Bond style espionage.
  • Agent Carter - “Steve Rogers’ old girlfriend”. And, Geez Louise, a whole lot more. Peggy Carter, Nick Fury before there was a Nick Fury. Set in the WWII era past, this is where you’ll go to for superhero universe espionage action. Lots of action, but again, the men (and women) in tights aren’t in the spotlight. Action, intrigue, drama, romance, a few laughs along the way.
  • Daredevil - Man in tights. Good, solid superhero action. Man of mystery. Action aplenty. Superpowers. The fight for justice. All done many steps above just competent. Caveat emptor: This one is not shiny happy.
  • Umbrella Academy- Strap in. This one is a ride. Siblings who aren’t siblings. Each with a superpower. Brought together to… make the world a better place? There’s even a kitchen sink in this one, but not just thrown in, it’s set to its own quite amazing score. I’ll say up front, if ‘unrealistic’ does a lot of lifting in your opinion of entertainment, just go ahead and skip to the next listing (It won’t help much, but you’ll finish faster). Think X-Men if they were written by Lewis Black (NSFW) or Denis Leary (NSFW)
  • Invincible (NSFW/Violence/Blood) - Animated, but NOT FOR KIDS. A truly happy “nuclear” family? Dad saves the world seven days a week. Mom keeps the home fires burning like she was born to it. And their son? The big day has finally happened. His powers are emerging! Wahoo! Red. Letter. Day. And then the wheels come off. “Come off” sort of like the Hindenburg ‘had a bumpy landing.’ If you’re into fast, wild and — let’s be frank — down right grisly, welcome home. This one puts the “MG” in OMG.

I’m not a big DC TV consumer, so I’ll leave those to others who are better versed.

Wow, that's a terrific menu, and I've dined from that often!

I haven't seen Invincible but apart from that exception, I'm a big fan of every one of those you've listed.

I'll add Gotham as well, but Arrow and Flash, not so much.

Ok maybe Arrow maybe not at all, and neither are good enough for the above menu.

Four of the five above have a real movie on the small screen feel, rather than being 'just' a TV show.

I'll add that Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were also very good.

And for me, a good movie time is two-hours, for a good movie, and a good TV show time is one-hour.

Watching some of shows that are 58-65min long is a much more enjoyable experience than the typical 42min for US 'hour-long' shows.

Iron Man was a great interpretation of comic book in todays timeline.

Keaton was great Batman and what a supporting cast.
Bale was a good trilogy of Batman.

1978 Superman talk about a cast. I need to give that one another watch

The last two episodes of STNG were better than any movie. Picard sitting down to play cards is right up there with Spock's death.

Babylon 5 will not disappoint once Sheridan arrives.

Escape from New York is just in a league of it's own. Us old farts can relate to a red LED wrist watch and landing a glider on one of the twin towers.

in that he snuffed the others or that he sucked?

There's 2 of his later films I've seen him in that I thought he was good in.
Walk the Line (although a bit over done. I met Johnny, JP intensity was a bit much.) Reese was way more in line with the June I met, though June was way older.
The Master both of them killed that to death.
I gave Joker way more time then other later Marvel stuff. But in the end I think JP stole the show ... and not in a good way.

Here to mention Wanted and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. I understand they are based on comics, and I enjoy them once in a while. Not epic like Marvel, so a nice change of pace.
I love love Ang Lee’s Hulk!!

I’d say “The Boys” (NSFW) is as good as anything on my list. Another one not for the timid, kids or those who don’t snicker just a little when Batman calls Supes the ‘Big Blue Boy Scout’. I’m in the camp that I can roll with a degree of darkness in my protagonists, and for my money those in “The Boys” aren’t even all that dark, more a definite shade of gray.

With the admission that it’s been a good few months since I’ve watched the show (it completed it’s second season October 2020), I think I’d go as far to say a few still have at least one foot solidly on the side of light (Mother’s Milk? Hughie? Annie?)

Some people just don't "get" superhero movies, and that's all right.

"Joker" was basically a remake of "Taxi Driver" which is why it was so damn good.

I've watched a few of the Batman (not your mention) and Spider-Man animations, and they're ok, story wise but the animation is more cartoon than animation.

But I'm always put off by the high quality of the detailed poster are and then disappointed by the lack of same in the actual animation.

The Lego Batman & Superman Movie was really good, and very funny.

Subsequent efforts weren't nearly as clever.
