I guess the two main types are wrist and armband.

From what I understand, the arm band type is much better.

I'm not interested in an AAPL watch, or something that works with an app.

I wouldn't suggest any sort of wrist devise, closer to the heart more reliable the read. You might be best served by using a cuff and stethoscope, there's a bit of learning curve but they seem most accurate.

We have three different pump units and they all sometimes vary to a surprising degree. Of the 3 the oldest an Omron is the quickest, noisiest and about as accurate as the newer Medline or Tanplue.

Wrist ones are supposedly inferior. The walmart generic is made by Omron.

Omron, Series 7 with Bluetooth is very good. The app is decent for recording Bp. A pain to re-pair it with the app on a new phone, but that seems to be true of most of the BT BP monitors.

Haven't tried the recent "gold" or "platinum" models.

I needed one and searched for a model that was compact, self-contained, easy to use and included bluetooth and a good app for managing the data on my phone. The model of choice at the time I bought my monitor is the Omron Evolv:

You can get it for less via amazon.com, Walmart, drugstores like RiteAid and CVS.

I have one at my home and one at my office. It works very nicely. Definitely recommended unless you want to keep one at home and one at your office. Previously that wasn't an issue but it has becomeone after a recent app update. Now, with the current flavor of the app, it no longer allows me to have two of the identical model connected to it simultaneously anymore.

It was configured that way before tyhe update without an issue. After the update, it recognized both and I confirmed the one I leave on my kitchen table with the expectation of confirming the second when I got to my office. Tried and it won't recognize the second one as a separate monitor. Annoying. I haven't gotten around to contacting Omron about it.

If I can't get them both connected again, I may end up giving the second one to my wife and buying a mode, from a different brand for my office. Not my preference since I'd rather manage them in a single app but you do what you need to do. The model linked by Article looks nice. So do a few models from iHealth, whose products seem pretty good overall. Need to make sure you can test your blood pressure with them _without_ having your phone handy.

With the Evolv, I can test my blood pressure without my phone and sync the data whenever I remember. I don't need my phone on hand for the testing. That's pretty important. I sync the data once a week (just like I do with my smart glucose meters.

Most units pump up to a high pressure and slowly release the pressure to take the readings. The Panasonic unit I linked above will take the measurements as the pressure goes up and stops as soon as the reading is done. That means no unnecessary high pressure on your arm if you don’t have high blood pressure.

The Omron we use does something similar: it senses BP while pumping up and stops at some fixed amount above the systolic. It doesn't pump to a high, fixed point like our old one does. But the Omron does take and display the readings as the cuff pressure bleeds off.

I have the QardioArm and my wife uses an Omron. Both are are arm cuffs and work great. I like the data logging on Qardio; my wife needs to download the data, but the Qadio is always available in the app.

I hope that's sarcasm. They all died in their 80's and 90's except one that had cancer. It was only like four people. People do get old and just die.
