With true unlimited data at AT&T and T-Mobile, any of you canceling your home ISP?

Never really thought about this until recently, but I'll bet plenty of people are now canceling their home ISP modem/wifi account and just using their cell phone to do everything, including watching their TV movies. Any of you doing that?

I need my Comcast broadband so that my iPhones can use WiFi calling to actually make calls.

You seem to be assuming that everyone has great cell coverage and high speed cellular data connections at their homes.

And there's a 40GB/mo data cap for hotspot data.

AT&T is adding a few more benefits to its $85-per-month top-tier unlimited plan at no added cost. Unlimited Elite subscribers will now truly have access to unlimited high-speed data and will no longer be subject to deprioritization after hitting 100GB of data per month. Customers will also get a bump from 30GB of monthly hotspot data up to 40GB as well as up to 4K video streaming — boosted from a maximum of 1080p. The new plan features will be added automatically for all current subscribers starting this week.

Since there is no cell service from any carrier at my house, no. Well, take that back - we can get service from Canada in an exorbitant rate.

I wasn't assuming that, but I hadn't thought about that hotspot limit related to the TV and movies. Yeah, I guess it wouldn't really work for many to get rid of their ISP.

Cell data speed is no match for cable. wouldn't serve the needs of gamers (my son) or live streamers (me though that need has diminished greatly as the country reopens).

There's no way that cell service could match my Verizon gigabit speed.

I had borderline coverage at my current place. If anything, it has gotten worse with a big office opening about three blocks away. I would love to dump cable but I don't expect good 5G coverage at my current address until 2025 or 2026.

Since we're sharing: $51/month 500/500, and it generally gets that or better. (with Frontier in Florida)

AT&T: $92/month for 2 phones, plenty of data for us, but we don't watch movies on our phones.

Not yet, but I'm looking forward to being able to buy a 5G home base station and dropping a $25 unlimited Visible SIM into it (or less, as there's no reason to think prices won't continue to drop). Won't fool with that until the 5G roll out is much farther along, another year or two I'd think (today's fake 5G won't cut it).

I'm looking into it, as we've been T-Mo customers forever, and Comcash is just crappy service around here, although we only pay about $70/mo. However, we watch no cable TV, so we are essentially just paying for the 'net. We only get about 35/5 service.

Hurts like a bastid...

My son has Fidelity which just went from 250Mbps to 1Gig with no increase in fee. I'm exceptionally envious.

I pay through the nose for Comcast/Xfinity with unlimited data; speeds around 500Mbps. I can't really complain about the speed or the uptime, but the cost well exceeds what I think we should pay -- but they don't have any (real) competition in my neighborhood, so I'm stuck. (Fidelity is all over in my area, but not my neighborhood in particular, and no one at Fidelity seems to know why. Hell, there's an empty lot down the highway that is all but pre-wired for fiber as a sales incentive to someone to develop a subdivision there.)

As a Full Time RVer, I DON'T have a "home ISP".

Between my MiFi hot spots and my phones, I'm generally covered for the well over 100GB per month that I use.

Over the last several years, T-Mobile has REALLY "upped its' game" re coverage. Although Verizon touts its' 5G "service", if you're NOT in (or VERY close to) a major metropolitan area, I believe that their 5G is currently vaporware puffery. boink smiley

What Verizon calls 5G is 1/3 the speed of my ATT fiber connection right now (suburban Atlanta), and I have the lowest speed tier. It's Fake 5G for the time being.

Very cool, testcase. I didn't know this. Would love to see some pics of your setup. Also, what's your up/down speeds with your cell?
