Venus Fly Traps

Trader Joe's is hawking them for $5 now.

They warn that the potting mixture needs to be constantly kept moist.

IIRC, they also prefer subdued light.

These seem like tough things to give them in Sacramento since I'd probably keep them outside.

Has anyone successfully grown them?

my neighbors have some outside - they like to be in the shade and will dry out fast if you let them, but they seem to be just fine.

they have other carnivorous plants that claim to require distilled water (I guess they are jungle plants) and they have a much harder time living in Sacramento

I was thinking about placing them near my garbage can and side sliding door to try and keep the number of flies that get inside my apartment down.

How difficult are these planys to propagate?

If someone could genetically shift them into having an appetite for roaches, they'd fly off the shelves in NYC.

Bog plants. Very, very specific habitat requirements, and very small. A boutique plant for the windowsill.

LOL, wurm!

The only reason I clicked was to see who posted a pic of Venus Flytrap!

Pro tip… Only use distilled water. We water ours from our dehumidifier. It’s lived for years.

Can you feed these plants something like a little bit of raw ground beef if they're aren't any flies available?

I did that when I was a kid, and it killed it.
