Anyone Subscribing to Sirius XM On Your Vehicle?
Posted by: Beam Me Up Scotty

Just wondering if you are & what you're listening to. My car has a free trial and I'm trying to justify the $21.99 monthly fee charge after it ends.

Note: This is sort of related to the 'To those that are hesitant to post' below. I don't post here much & thought I'd toss a random subject out there to forum members for discussion.

Thanks,
BeMUS

Nobody pays 21.99 for Sirius XM!

You must call or chat with them and don't back down. The deal i generally get is $5 a month for a 12 month commitment...or sometimes 6 months.

My usual station line up:

70s on 7
80s on 8
90s on 9
Vinyl Hits

Yacht Rock
Bruce Springsteen
CNN
Comedy XL

When the trial end comes, call them. Tell them it's too expensive (which, it is). They will offer a $4.99/month 12 month subscription when you push.

I finally subscribed, but at the about $6/month price.
If you get that “limited time” new subscriber rate be sure to set up notifications so you will know when they are about to jack up the price, so you can renegotiate.

Edit: The $6 price includes taxes and fees. They sell it as the $4.99/month price.

Wife deals with them every 6 or 12 months for both cars. I think the $5/6 per month does not allow online streaming, at least I get this error when I try to stream. But they used to send me email about streaming being included. WTF?

Yeah don’t pay full price. Not worth it.

Everyone pretty much covered it. $5/6 a month. The commercials are what irritated me. It’s like I’m paying for a satellite service that touted commercial free when they started, but I understand that individual stations need to raise funds. The stations all had the same commercial at the time’ “DinoVite the premium pet vitamins” or something like that.

Thanks for all the replies. I did manage to score another three months for $2. After that the monthly charge applies & I suppose by then I'll know whether I want to keep it or not.

Say you do not want to renew after the three months and they will eventually offer you the $4.99/month rate

I did the "Free 90 Day Trial" when I bought my Prius. Something as simple as driving under a tree and the signal would drop off. Same with driving under an overpass. I wouldn't pay $5/month for Sirius "service".

I do have a free Pandora account which I use occasionally. I do NOT find the ads on Pandora ANYWHERE near as bothersome as what I have to deal with online AND, multiple times a year, I get ad free Pandora through my T-Mobile account.

For more than a "short drive" I prefer to listen to an audiobook which I get FREE through my public library's Overdrive or Libby Apps. boink smiley

just wait until you decide you've had enough and want to disconnect.
I went around with them for 3 months, cancelling a few times each month and they never did though they said they had.
Kept charging my AmEx.
That was their mistake.
Called AmEx and they took care of it in an evening.
LSS, don't give them a charge you can't cut off and definitely not a bank debit card.

When the time comes that your free service expires , if you decide to continue, never let your subscription lapse. Always call them about a week before and re up your subscription, usually around $6 a month for 5 or 6 months for their select service (with streaming). Another thing I do is pay by invoice so they don’t have my charge card. It’s an extra $2 charge but we’ll worth it to keep my card out of their grubby little hands.

Nobody pays 21.99 for Sirius XM!

I do. Not worth the time or hassle to deal with calling twice or even once a year.

That’s what spouses or assistants are for!

Save $15 times 12 = 180 and it takes just 15 min. Or equivalent of $720/hour. That is more than enough to motivate her.

I signed up for a lifetime subscription about 16 years ago. So every month my "per month" price keeps dropping. And I never need to call them. None of the channels I listen to have commercials, but some of them do have annoying DJs who like to talk. I really miss it when I'm driving my pickup and I forget to move the receiver form my other vehicle and have to listen to regular radio.

Your Favorite Forum Cracker here.
Where I live there are 2 Rock & Roll stations. A couple of Crappy Pop Stations and the rest is Country.
I grew up listening to Everything. There was Country Western and Pop.

So Sirius XM is Nice. Unnecessary, but nice.

When Mom was in the car/truck we could listen to the 50's.
If you want any R & B Sirius is a must. Tagging a group or song as a Favorite is super nice.

Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers.

Christmas Time and all the speciality Channels. If you spend any amount of time in the car, Sirius is nice.

How much is the lifetime these days and how much it was back then?

Also with most cars having a stand-alone radio is no longer a practical option these days, so I don't see myself moving a receiver from one car to another... Also I don't plan to keep the cars 16 years, I think I will try to refresh every 10-12 years from now on. I was driving a 20 year old Civic and it wasn't fun.

Thanks again for all the replies. Of all the stations my favorite right now is 'The Coffee House' (Channel 14 I think). Musicians I've never heard of and for me I find it relaxing to drive with but interesting enough to stay awake during.

Cheers,

Lifetime doesn't exist anymore.

OK, I just tried it again and now it works.

Now sure what is different, when I had both cars, maybe a year ago, it didn't let me stream. When we got that Volt damaged we called to cancel the XM on the volt since it was in the repair shop. We got it back but didn't bother to call XM yet to re-activate that radio. But, I tried the App and it works. Thanks!!!

They'll give that price to anybody if you just keep saying, "No thanks, too expensive" to other pricing. Which you can now do in Chat, which is nice.

You can keep getting that price indefinitely as long as you call to cancel before your current plan expires (even the day before it expires). They'd rather get a little than get nothing.

Yep, I activated a radio via chat for 12 months for $6 & change monthly w/ tax.

Also got 3 free months before charges started...maybe that radio had never before been activated?
