21 Strange and Ingenious Uses for WD40

If you could take the American spirit—equal parts Daniel Boone, Chuck Yeager, and Elon Musk—and distill it into an aerosol, it would be a blue-and-yellow can of WD40.

For more than 60 years, we’ve been relying on the 40th attempt of a Water Displacement formula to fix, well, whatever needs fixing.

Use No. 1: Spray it on dead fish bait as “a great pike attractor.”
Use No. 2: Coat wire tomato cages with it to keep insects away.
Use No. 3: It stops metal tent poles from squeaking in the wind.
Use No. 4: It removes crayon from turtle shells.

Placing stoddard solvent (aka kerosene) in the waterways should be
illegal, if not already, for the whole planet.
Also not a good idea to get it on your skin, in your eyes. nor breathe its
fumes.

Use No. 2: Coat wire tomato cages with it to keep insects away.
Another asinine idea. What's wrong with lemon, garlic, or chiles? Folks
have used them for centuries as insect repellents.

I was expecting this to somehow be related to the two threads below it about "shaving". Maybe as a shaving cream substitute.

We used to use it to clean stainless steel in a restaurant I worked at 40 years back.

I have used it on the front on my SS fridge to get the smudges off. It works pretty well.
That slightly oily residue it leaves helps keep new smudges from happening, too.
I usually spray it on a paper towel and wipe rather than spray it on the fridge. The overspray with WD40 is pretty bad.

Unless outboard motors have changed have ever seen the crap trail they leave on the water from their 2 stroke gas mix?

Like other ICE motors, the technology has improved by leaps & bounds.
btw, the "crap trail" you used to see was basically refined motor oil and
not something as toxic as a stoddard solvent/hydrocarbon mix.
Many jurisdictions have outright banned 2-stroke motors on their
waterways and some reservoirs are restricted to only electric motors.

You do not want to get caught on the Chesapeake Bay with a 'leaky'
motor; inboard or outboard.
