'The Verge is partnering with Consumer Reports for a new project about internet costs'

I just took it - very easy. I now have fiber internet, my comments would have been far more scathing when I was stuck with Charter a little over a year ago.

My cost is basically $90 / month for 500 up and down. Was one of the first in my neighborhood last year, and MetroNet had trouble keeping everything going for a few months (and ended up having to join with some others in my city to shame them via Twitter to both admit the issue and to get fixing it as a priority). But it's been solid the last 9 months.

It looks like a marketing campaign to collect user data more than anything else.

sorta relevant:

I moved a couple of months ago (locally) and was transferring my cable internet (Spectrum/Charter). The woman said I could save $5/month if I also signed up for VOIP with them. I already have Ooma and said "no thanks". I thought there was an extra charge for this. She said no, the combined bill was $5 less than just internet. So now I have a VOIP phone number that I haven't even looked into setting up, and I pay $5 less than if it was just internet. I asked if this was a promotion, and she said I could call back after a year and change if the price goes up.

I think the article on The Verge explains the context well. I would not have recommended a marketing survey to MRF.

As always, if you do not want to participate then I would recommend you wait.
