Was able to get some decent photos. I have to say, this is a very odd looking bird!

(Are we all still thinking immature cardinal?)

And I think we had decided on juvenile cardinal, but I'm not as convinced now that it's a female...?

It really seems to love my feeder... can't get enough.

On a related note ... I saw a different bird toward the front of my house that unfortunately I didn't take photos of, but I'd be curious if anyone could identify based on the description. About robin-size, brown feathers with white breast speckled with brown spots, a fairly long brown tail, and a brown crest. Kept making "cheep cheep cheep" noises at me. Pretty bird, even though the coloration wasn't very colorful. I would have thought maybe mockingbird, except for the crest, and that usually the mockingbirds around here are grey rather than brown. Merlin and WhatBird both didn't help to do the ID.

Yeah, cardinal. But I like death warbler. We need one!

Yep, looked almost exactly like a brown thrasher, except I could have sworn it had a crest -- which stuck in my head because I know not too many birds around here have crests -- blue jays, cardinals, titmice, etc.

Brown Thrasher is the GA state bird. We have several that live around us.

Now I'm starting to think it might just have been a mockingbird, though I didn't think mockingbirds have a brown speckled breast, nor a crest. The vocalizations were more like a mockingbird. If I see it again, I'll definitely try to get a photo, because it was a very pretty bird, even if it was just brown and white.

Mocking birds have a very wide vocalization repertoire that copies birds around them; that's why they're called mocking birds.

And I believe most North American mockingbirds have fairly distinct white areas on predominantly gray bodies.
