For those who change their own car oil

Sorry folks. Didn't mean to hijack freeradical's post. As an infrequent poster I blew it. Let me try gain:

Mobil is offering a $15 rebate on a 5 quart jug of their synthetic oil. You need to purchase the oil by Oct. 7th and submit your rebate form by Oct. 21st. The rebate is in the form of a VISA prepaid card which expires after 3 months.

WALLY World supposedly has a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil on sale for $20.96. With the rebate it would cost you $5.96.

Thanks. I almost always take advantage of those deals and try to remember to keep an eye out for the rebates. I'll make a note of it!

Thanks for the reminder!

fwiw, Certain models from VW Group (Audi, Porsche, VW...) now ship from
the factories filled with Mobil 1. Exxon/Mobil is a racing sponsor and
apparently increased their 'participation' ($$$). [www.porsche.com]
Approved types:
*Porsche C20, VW 508 00
*Porsche C30, VW 504 00, VW 507 00, MB 229.51
*Porsche A40, VW 502 00, MB 229.5

Problem with 5 quart size is so many engines now require 6 or more
quarts. iirc, even the sub-1.6L turbo engines need six qts.

Just adds a new twist to the "10 hot dogs/8 buns" conspiracy theories.

Good deal. Yep. mine is 2.0L, 6 quarts.

I easily have the know how to change my oil, but the process of changing it is worth paying $59 for. OIl + filter + tools + disposal + place to do it + time = way more than $59 every 6 months. Air filters and cabin filters are different tho -- total DIY for anyone.

Tiny engines always spinning fast, and oil cooled turbos just require a bigger oil sump. This is why their tiny filters just baffle me. At least they upped the oil capacity in the pan.

Even the massive big block american cars usually had 5 qt oil pans from the factory. For racing, they got modified or replaced with bigger ones. The Ford and Chevy/GMC truck solutions were 2 qt oil filters.

I had a Dodge, and that 426 hemi oil pan was huge.

I don't know much about these things but I'm kind of surprised to hear about a turbo on a tractor.

Many (most?) diesel commercial engines are turbocharged

And late Detroit Diesels were both turbo'ed and blower equipped. They would both suck and blow. smiley-excited001
