Chamberlain MyQ Garage door opener and HomeKit

it does not work with Alexa, but it works with Google assistant (which I do not use) and I bunch of other services I have no interest in at this time (key from Amazon, Vivint home security, Xfinity, etc).

But not I got an email about Homekit compatibility. See link above. I have the garage opener with WiFi and MyQ logo, I am not sure if it is Chamberlain or LiftMaster. But since it has the MyQ logo I would think it should work with Homekit. my App does not list Homekit. I checked if there are firmware updates, I do not see any way to check and update firmware.

Any idea how to get these working with Homekit? I'd love to say "Siri open garage 3" rather than open the App.

Thanks

Funny you ask because I have a MyQ opener too, and I've just never bothered to look into it. I guess it would be nice to know the open/close "state," but I would be fearful of it not closing it when it's supposed to. We've had issues (beyond just the sensors) that have kept it from closing reliably on occasion.

whe you close from the App, it make a lot of noise to alert anyone around, and if the sensors are working properly, it should not close if there is an object in the path.

I have it set up to close automatically in the evening (if I forget a door open, this came in handy a few times) and I'd like to open it when I get home from biking by asking Siri to open it for me, not having to punch the code on the keypad or open the App on the phone.

Maybe I install Google Assistant on my phone if I cannot link it to homekit.

I had to buy a HomeKit bridge for my Chamberlain.

I've been running Homebridge on my rpi4 along with the MyQ plug-in for about 2 years.

For a long time Chamberlain kept updating their APIs and the plug-in kept breaking. But it has been mostly stable for the past 6 months. Works great with Siri.

In addition to MyQ, I also have home bridge plug-ins for my WeMo switches (older pre-Homekit ones), Harmony remote, and a few other obscure devices.

Edit to add: You can also use the standard PiOS and easily add Homebridge to it.

Works pretty good.

OK, but that says "Add smartphone control to myQ enabled products that don’t have built in Wi-Fi.
Works with Apple® HomeKit™ and Siri® voice control."

My MyQ has built-in WiFi. The App does not show Homekit as one of the options. I am confused...

To get that compatibility, you have to pay extra for the MyQ bridge.

I decided I did not need the HomeKit part that bad...

I use mine with IFTT on my iPhone. When I leave geofence, it closes if it's open. Siri can close it, but Alexa does not understand it.

It used to be Quirky hub connected, but that died with the company.

Chamberlin wants to build their own system. Sells cameras and all that. Ugh.

Wait - I have to pay an additional $70 for an adapter between the myQ wifi garage door adapter I already own and have installed for it to work with Homekit?

MyQ is a mess. If I had not purchased and installed thinking it would work with Alexa - purchased from an Amazon lightning sale tied to Amazon home delivery - I would never have purchased. This is absurd.

Yes. The company name is Chamberlain. They also manufacture GDOs under the Liftmaster and Craftsman brands.

OK so a few days ago when I posted this I didn't have time to look into details. Now I did and indeed I need to add the bridge, which has not great reviews. I decided I did not need HomeKit compatibility that much after all, and I will not expand the MyQ system at all. I do not need their cameras or other stuff.

hard pass.

Thanks
