Any robot mower owners here?

We have a significant lawn. Most people wouldn't find it impressive but its more than I care to mow on a weekly basis. The idea of buying a robot mower came to my attention and I really like the idea. Youtube is quite enthusiastic about the WORX models.

Anyone own a robot mower and have experiences to share, good, bad, or otherwise?

Yes.

How much does that cost? How large is your yard and how frequently do they come? The robot mowers I'm looking at run about $1,000, give or take. Seems like it would pay for itself in about two years.

0.8 acre, 3 guys (boss rides the mower, one guy with a trimmer and one with a leaf blower). takes them 30-40 min. $45, they come whenever they want, sometimes every other week, sometimes once per week, on average I would say every 10-11 days or so.

I know whet they come because I see the grass cut and the cameras alert me.

Yep. I have a Husqvarna Automower 430X (link) for 2-1/2 years now. Love it. "Snippy" does a fantastic job. You still have to trim, which I do with an electric 40V Ryobi every 2 weeks basically. The automower wont get right to the edge of landscaped beds, trees, etc. - it gets about 2" or so away.

Literally being done with yard work in 15-20 minutes is awesome. This is on a 1/2 acre lot.

Snippy was put into service on April 10, 2019. Since then - he's traveled 4,248 MILES. Absolutely crazy when you think about it. I gave him a real nice tune up this spring, completely taking it apart and cleaning everything totally (first time for that), and polishing the plastic enclosure and even ceramic coating everything inside and out to help keep dirt & grass from sticking. And, I put a new set of rear drive wheels on it, changing the flat surface wheels to ones with a little deeper spike on them to help with my front ditch which is a bit of a slope. When it was damp the factory wheels would slip a bit. Not anymore. I've probably put 20 sets of blades on it since new. Generics available on Amazon very reasonable. Think industrial double sided razor blades, I change them when I can hear the grass being cut instead of it just slicing through.

Install takes a pro to do it right. Was $3387 installed, including changing my front ditch line from just a plain ditch to a french drain covered by sod, and adjusting the slopes to allow the mower an easier entry and exit angle, and add a ton of river rock to the culvert that the driveway crosses.

Would I do it again? 100%.

Here's a few shots from the app.

Good Luck!

Lots of mower owners here. Don't think any of us are robots though. At least that we, or they, know of.

I always wanted one.

But I didn't want to / couldn't spend the money for one.

I'm on 1.6 acres now, so I don't think a robot mower would work. Besides, it's not just a big open area. The front lawn has 4 "gardens" in it, the one side yard has a large tree stump that needs to be ground, the other side yard has a big garden but lots of tree roots sticking up. The back is a maze of gardens and plantings and a koi pond. Mowed it today with the new riding mower and the push mower, as there are areas that are just easier with the push mower. Just cutting the yard takes about an hour and a half. Trimming and blowing takes another 30 minutes... 45 if I use the edger too.

I remember your query about riding mowers a while back. What did you end up with?
