After more than 70 years, Topps will no longer make MLB cards.

MLB will not renew its agreement with Topps to make the cards. Baseball has chosen Fanatics going forward to make the cards. Both the NFL and NHL have also signed with Fanatics; a company that has never printed a card.

The traditional card company was in the midst of a merger and IPO when MLB made the announcement, Both have now been called off.

Tragic. Who is going to pick up the slack in the stale gum industry? Bazooka?

Will the new cards, from a source who never before made a card, stand up to the bike spoke test?

What happened with Topps that the major sports leagues would do this?

Fanatics came in lower and promises a more efficient distribution network. I'm guessing Topp's was sitting fat and happy and let an underdog take them out.
