Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts dies aged 80

The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has died, his publicist has said.

The musician, who marked his 80th birthday in June, had been a member of the rock group since 1963.

A statement from his London publicist, Bernard Doherty, to the PA news agency said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts.

“He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family.”

NYT Obit: Charlie Watts

I was never a serious Stones fan but I loved their hits and always admired their ongoing passion. Learned a lot from the times obit. Thought Watts was a hoot during the song the Stones streamed during pandemic.

RIP

I'll repeat what I said some time ago about their 2015 concert DVD: Charlie is *on* during that concert. It's a must-see for any Stones fans. The band is tight, the song selection is great (whole Sticky Fingers album plus many others), and the vibe is almost of the earlier era.
